Description
The Act of Union is a huge event in the History of Canada. It started when Upper and Lower Canada had a huge conflict, then Britain sent Lord Durham to investigate and find a solution to end the conflict. Later on, Lord Durham found out that the French were having a problem and not the English, so they told the French to assimilate. In the end, English became the official language of Canada. This event changed the future Canada and it lasted for a very long time that made this event very historical significant.
How did this event shed light on enduring or emerging issues in history or contemporary life?
This event united French and Britain together. Without this event, French and English would still have a huge conflict between each other, they wouldn't live in harmony. Even now they have a few arguments but this tells us that no matter how big the conflict is, we can still unite together.
Lord Durham
Lord Durham was sent by Britain to investigate about the Rebellion and to stop it. He arrived in the year 1840. After a year, an act united the two colonies together as one, this act is called " the Act of Union".
Britain
British People lived in upper Canada. The King sent Lord Durham to Canada to investigate the lives of the people after he heard about the news that the people weren't happy about their lives due to the conflict between them and the French.
France
French people lived in lower Canada. Ever since the Napoleonic War, both the French and British had conflicts against each other. After the Durham Report, the King of Britain wanted French people to change their culture and act like British people.
