Maltby Messenger
April 1st Edition
~A message from our Principal~
Dear Families,
Welcome April flowers! The tulips and daffodils are in full bloom here and in Skagit County! Enjoy these beautiful reminders of spring!
Kindergarten registration was yesterday. If you missed the information, it is posted on the district website and in this messenger. You may register online or come to the Maltby office and request a paper packet. Both middle schools had registration information nights last week. Registration is online, as is their webinar. Not an incoming kinder or sixth grader, but needing to register? Welcome 😊 Registration is online for all.
For car drop off or pick up, please queue in a single file line on 212th street. Taking a left from 212th street into the previous formed line that goes into the parking lot area causes traffic disruptions and distress.
Classrooms are disinfected in the morning, mid-day for classes changing cohorts, and evening. In addition. high touch areas are disinfected throughout the school day. Students are seated 6’ apart and all people are wearing masks, completing an attestation form, and washing their hands. A close contact is considered being closer than 6’ for longer than 15 minutes.
Please remember, if your child is not well, please keep them home. If a child comes to school and is ill, we will place them in our safe room, and you will be called to come pick your child up. At that time, we will discuss next steps. We do have Rapid Covid tests available, and with your consent, we may administer one in this circumstance.
Staff has available to them bi-monthly Covid testing, as well. Many staff are utilizing this opportunity to ensure their safety.
Spring break is right around the corner! Enjoy your spring days! The days are getting longer and we are celebrating more light!!! Be safe and enjoy your spring break!
Fondly,
Bonnie McKerney
SPRING BREAK IS HERE!! Monroe School District will be out of school the week of April 5th through April 9th for spring break. Classes will resume on Monday, April 12th.
In-Person Student REMINDERS...
End of Day Changes
- Please remember to contact the office if your student will have a change in their transportation for the day. You can call the office at: (360)804-3500 by 10:00 AM for Cohort A/2:00 PM for Cohort B or send a dated note with your student. Thank you!!
Daily Attestations
- If you are in need of blank daily attestation forms, please reach out to your child's teacher and we can arrange to send some home with your student. These attestations MUST be completed and brought to school everyday. We understand some families may not have access to a printer, and we are happy to help by sending copies home.
- Please make sure when you are filling out the daily attestations for students that you also date, sign and take their temperature, writing it in the top right corner fo the attestation form. School staff are required to double check temps on arrival. This will help speed up the process for curbside drop-off and bus loading.
Attendance Hotline:
- Just a reminder, we take attendance daily. If you know your child will be absent, please call our 24 hour attendance hotline at: (360)804-3501. Thank YOU!!

Student Transfer requests for 2021-2022
Is your student attending school on a transfer? The deadline for families to turn in transfer requests is quickly approaching. Families living outside the Monroe School District requesting a Choice Transfer (out of district) or families living within the Monroe School District requesting an Intra-District Transfer (in-district) for their child to attend a school outside of their neighborhood attendance area must complete forms to renew their transfers. This includes incoming kindergarten students. The deadline to turn in these forms to be considered for the 2021-2022 school year is Friday, April 16th. Forms received by this date will be reviewed and processed no later than April 30th. Families will be notified sometime in May for requests received by the April 16th deadline. Late forms may not be considered until August.
As a reminder, all transfer forms must be renewed each year. A separate form is required for each child requesting a transfer. Forms are available online by going to https://www.monroe.wednet.edu/about/register-for-school/transfer-requests. Paper copies can be obtained at any of our school buildings or at the Monroe School District Administration Building located at 14692 179th Ave SE in Monroe. For specific questions regarding transfers, please call the District Office at (360) 804-2573. For general enrollment questions, please contact our office.
From the desk of Nurse Joy...
Hello Parents!
We are excited to begin welcoming back your children! Please review the attached Illness Guidelines. We will be following this guidance from the WA Department of Health, Snohomish Health District and the Monroe School District. If your child becomes ill please contact the school regarding your child's illness symptom(s) as soon as possible. We will then review the symptoms with you and determine the pathway for your child to return to school. We are required to follow this very closely.
If children with illness symptoms arrive at school, parents will be contacted to pick their child up. We appreciate your understanding and willingness to work with us to keep children and staff healthy and safe. Thank-you!
Sincerely,
Joy Good RN BSN

Free and Reduced Lunch and Discounted Internet
While we are currently offering FREE breakfast and lunch to all students, the funding for this program has been extended through June 2021. We know that each year many of our families qualify for free or reduced price meals and it is very important that families who may qualify fill out the annual application in order to receive free or reduced price meals for the remainder of the school year.
Meal Applications can be found on our website and can be submitted in-person or online here. Once you submit an application, you will receive a notice in the mail as to whether your child/children can receive free or reduced-price meals. If approved, your letter can help you access the K-12 Internet Access Program. Every eligible form that is not submitted means lost resources for your family and our schools.
If you qualify for free or reduced price meals, you may also be eligible to receive free internet service at your home. If you qualify for the free or reduced price meal program, you will receive a letter of approval. Once you have this letter, and if you are interested in the free Internet Access Program from the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI), please contact Brenda Hunt at: huntb@monroe.wednet.edu or 360.804.2500 (English) and Olga Flores at: floreso@monroe.wednet.edu or 360.804.2570 (Spanish) to receive the name of the internet provider and the offer/promo code to sign up for free internet. You can find more information on OSPI’s internet program here.
