The 100th Day of School
February 1st 2013
Counting 100 Packing Peanuts
On Monday, we spent the morning counting 100 packing peanuts. We used our sequencing device to count groups of 10 peanuts. We then counted to make sure we had 10 groups of 10. We used glue to attach these to poster board to hang outside the room.
Surveying 100 6th Graders
Last week we sent out surveys to 100 6th graders asking them their favorite color. This week we used color blocks and our sequencing device to count how many 6th graders liked each color. We also had to color these on a graph. We had to answer questions about our graph. We learned that our 6th graders really like the color blue, and yellow really was not popular.
Counting 100 Bottle Caps
On Tuesday, we spent the morning counting 100 bottle caps. We used our sequencing device to count groups of 5 bottle caps. We then counted to make sure we had 20 groups of 5. We used glue to attach these to poster board to hang outside the room.
Surveying 100 6th Graders
We also surveyed 100 6th graders asking them if they had a cell phone or not. We used pictures of cellphones, and pictures of cellphones with a no sign on top count with. Every picture represented 2 students and we worked with our device on counting by 2's. We had to glue the pictures on the graph. We found out that out of the 100 6th graders surveyed, 74 had cell phones and 26 did not.
100th Day of School Books
Everyday after Calendar time we got to hear a story read by one of the assistants about the 100th day of school. We even found one book on United Streaming and were able to watch a video about the book.
6th Grade Readers
Our 6th grade readers spent the week sharing a chapter book with us for our week of activities.
A Lot of Jellybeans!
On Wednesday, we went to the library. Mrs. Cox read us the book . We used the IPAD's to work on sorting jellybeans by color. We also got to color a picture of a jellybean. Mrs. Cox shared a jellybean treat with us at the end!
Counting 100 Popsicle Sticks
On Wednesday morning we worked on counting 100 popscicle sticks. Each student was required to use a counting device to count 25 sticks. When then counted our 4 groups to make 100.
My Favorite Activities
On Thursday, we used pictures to write about our 3 Favorite Activities from the First 100 Days Of School. We were given 2-3 choices at a time using pictures, choice boards, and voice output devices. After we picked our favorite we had to glue these on our paper to make our story.
Popsicle Fences
We took our 25 sticks that we counted and glued them to cardstock. We then painted them each different colors. We also glued a picture of ourselves on each paper to look like a wooden fence. We wrote Happy 100th Day of School on these. We decided to share these with a few of our favorite teachers.
Special Reader
On Friday, Mrs. Cassidy came to visit our class. She read us a special book about the 100th day of school!
Gifts
On Friday, we delivered our popsicle fences to some of our favorite teachers a thank you. We shared our project with Mrs. Cassidy, Mrs. Davis, Mrs. Leigher, and Mrs. Cox.
