Wade King Elementary
JUNE 2020
A Note from the Principal
Dear Wade King Families,
As we enter the last few weeks of our school year, I imagine you have questions about how our year will end. Below, you will find answers to questions about picking up your child's belongings and work, student promotion to the next grade, report cards, and kindergarten registration.
June 18th is our last day of school. You will continue to receive learning menus from your child's teacher on Seesaw with learning engagements through June 18th.
Traditionally, on the last day of school, our students, staff, and families would gather in the cafeteria to reflect on our year, celebrate our 5th graders, and say good-bye for the summer. We wish this is how we could end our year together, but we are not able to because maintaining the health and safety of our community is our top priority. We know this is disappointing, especially for our fifth-grade students who are transitioning to middle school. I want you to know that our staff is working hard to create a 'Last Day of School Celebration' video that we will send to families on the morning of June 18th. It is our hope that everyone in our community will be able to watch that video, knowing we're together in our hearts, even though we can not be together in person.
Be sure to read the articles below because they will likely give you answers to some of the questions you have. I'm sure you also have questions about what next year will look like and want you to know that our district leadership team will be working on that during the summer, following the guidance of OSPI, the CDC, and the Health Department. You can expect to hear from Dr. Baker, and from me, as we have more clarity. Dr. Baker addressed this in his Virtual Conversation yesterday. If you haven't had a chance to listen to it, I encourage you to.
Like always, please connect with me if you have questions or if there is something you need.
With Gratitude,
Stephanie Johnson, Principal

Picking Up Work and Belongings
Your child's teacher will be in front of the school at the time below. If you come during this time, you will drive up in the carpool loop and stay in your car. Our staff will put a bag for your child on a table and step back. After the staff person steps back, an adult in the car can get out to pick up the bag from the table and get back in your car to drive away.

Promotion Information
Many of you have asked about the promotion of your student to the next grade and what will happen at the end of the school year regarding next year. Our district leadership has been working on this, and want you to know that all elementary school students will be promoted to the next year’s grade level following the end of this school year. We continue to expect that, to the extent possible for each student and family, students engage in learning menu activities and stay connected with their teachers through the end of the school year. We look forward to continuing to support learning and connection through Seesaw, and we realize that within this current circumstance of the extended school closure, learning opportunities may be impacted and slowed down. While we do not yet know what the fall will look like, our plan is to be ready to meet your child where they are at in their learning and help them thrive! Please continue to take part in the learning menu activities posted by your child’s teachers and other learning that you are doing in your homes.

A Message from School Counselor, Mrs. Wakefield
One of the best parts of my job is connecting with students and families and being a thought partner as needs arise. As we move into the summer, especially after spending the last three months at home, you're likely hearing your children saying they are bored. The article below may give you some ideas the next time you hear those words!
If there is anything else that I might be able to help with, please connect with me. I would also love to provide support or be a thought partner. You can reach me on my new cell phone at (360)746-5319... call or text... You can also email me.
Virtual Talent Show
If you haven't yet had a chance to watch our virtual Talent Show, be sure to check it out using this link. The kids and adults in our community have some pretty amazing talent!
