Chavez Eagle Express

Week of January 5, 2015

We would like to wish all of our Chavez community a Happy and Prosperous New Year for 2015. I hope that you all enjoyed a nice Christmas break with your families. I am sure all of your children can't wait to get back to school! (Ok, maybe Mom and Dad) Not to worry, they get back in their school routine quickly. The second half of the semester is often when we see great gains in learning with our students. It is amazing the difference in many students when they return from the break. Our Kindergarten through 2nd grade students will continue to focus on their Reading and Math skills to lay a good foundation for future success. Our 3rd, 4th and 5th graders will sharpen their focus to get prepared for their STAAR tests which will be coming up in March and April. We will have Benchmark tests (practice STAAR tests) in January and February to give us an idea of what our students need to work on. The next five months always seem to fly by as we work with our students. We Expect Great things at Chavez Elementary. Welcome Back!

4th graders learn about Texas Government and History in Austin.

Our Fourth grade students were fortunate enough to travel to Austin last Friday to visit the State Capitol and the Bob Bullock Museum. Fourth grade is the year when our students study Texas History and Government. What a better opportunity than to visit the State Capitol where it all takes places. Our students were led by our awesome 4th grade teachers of Adrianne Hopgood, Laurie Turner, Michelle Sparks, Audrey Pruitt and Sarah Harvey. We also had 12 enthusiastic parent chaperones who were a tremendous help throughout the trip. It is a privilege to give our students a rich learning opportunity to inspire their learning.

Tina Scott--Math/Science Specialist, Student Council Sponsor

Mrs. Scott has been our wonderful Math and Science Specialist here at Chavez for the past four years. Mrs. Scott has over 20 years of experience as an educator in Little Elm and in Dallas. Our 5th grade students have enjoyed Mrs. Scott as our new Student Council Sponsor this year. Student Council is a great organization on our campus. Mrs. Scott is an avid competitive equestrian rider. She will be glad to tell you about her beautiful horses and how she trains for competitions. Congratulations Mrs. Scott on being our Teacher of the Week!
