Principal’s Message
Hello Knight Families,
We are quickly winding down to the end of what will go down as a very memorable school year for so many reasons. As I have been sharing with you for the past few weeks, Senior grades and Emergency Learning Plan Work will be finalized on May 29. Therefore, it is important to ensure your student has completed all of their assignments by this date. Students in grades 9-11 should attempt to submit all work no later than June 5. Teachers will be finalizing their records on June 10. If you have concerns or questions, please reach out to your student’s teacher or counselor.
As promised last week, I have included our plan for you to collect and return items. This is no small task and I am thankful for all of our staff members who are working hard to ensure you can collect all of your student’s personal belongings and return necessary school property. Please read the document carefully as you will need to select a time slot and complete a brief survey about what you are picking up and/or dropping off. We want your visit to be as efficient and convenient as possible, so thank you for helping us with that. Additionally, please note that we are permitting our 9-11 grade students to retain items such as their chromebooks and in some cases musical instruments. Please click HERE for more details.
We are also ready to share some additional information about our in-person graduation ceremony. We will be sending out a personal invitation via the postal service on June 3. This invitation will include the date and time for you to report for your ceremony. We will also be asking you to RSVP so that we know you are coming. This will assist us in ensuring your experience is truly special. Should you not receive your invitation, or have questions, please contact our main office at 757-648-5100 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9:30 AM-1:30 PM. I have included a few more details here including generally which day your graduate is slated to attend. Also, don’t forget about all of the other events taking place during the Month of the Graduate!
I would like to thank you for all of your support during these trying times. From the community and PTSA support in providing a sign and t-shirt for every senior, to the parents who have been acting as teachers at home while also trying to juggle their normal obligations, it is so inspiring to see how our community has pulled together to ensure our students have what they need.
As you know, May 31 marks the one-year anniversary of the mass shooting in Building 2 at the Virginia Beach Municipal Center. I hope that you will join me in honoring the 12 lives lost and all those impacted by this tragedy by considering several opportunities for our community to remember. Additionally, there will be a citywide moment of silence at 4:06 PM. Please set your phone alarm now as we honor those lives that were lost. I wish all of you a successful and smooth close to the school year.
Sincerely,
Ryan Schubart
