Teacher Suggestion
Hand Washing
Please do not let hand sanitizer take the place of your students washing their hands. Students should wash hands before/ after lunch, after using restroom and after touching animals.
Handwashing is like a "do-it-yourself" vaccine—it involves five simple and effective steps (Wet, Lather, Scrub, Rinse, Dry) you can take to reduce the spread of diarrheal and respiratory illness so you can stay healthy. Regular handwashing, particularly before and after certain activities, is one of the best ways to remove germs, avoid getting sick, and prevent the spread of germs to others. It's quick, it's simple, and it can keep us all from getting sick. Handwashing is a win for everyone, except the germs.
· Wet your hands with clean, running water (warm or cold), turn off the tap, and apply soap.
· Lather your hands by rubbing them together with the soap. Be sure to lather the backs of your hands, between your fingers, and under your nails.
· Scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds. Need a timer? Hum the “Happy Birthday” song from beginning to end twice.
· Rinse your hands well under clean, running water.
· Dry your hands using a clean towel or air dry them.
Above Information from CDC
Handwashing will also help keep our students with food allergies safe. Please also consider allowing students to wash hands after specials- each day they are touching PE equipment, art supplies and musical instruments that are used daily by many students.
Immersion School Naming Survey
Ladies and Gentlemen:
On behalf of Chairperson Susan Dixon and Principal-Elect Pat Maness, I am forwarding the “Language Immersion School” Naming Committee’s list of potential names for our newest school, now under construction.
The Committee is sending this list, in the form of a survey to all district staff to gather your input. The hyperlink to access the survey is:
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2VNHVNG
The survey is very short (< 5 minutes) but very important to the Committee, the Superintendent and the Board! Your personal information will not be used or forwarded in any way.
The survey will remain open until about the end of this month. We will announce the actual closing time and date at that time.
The survey is also being sent to parents of all current language immersion students, and to district staff.
The committee will use your input to finalize their recommendations to Dr. Pew, and hope to bring the final name choice to the Board of Trustees at their February Work Session.
Thanks again for taking this survey for us.

Mindfulness: An Invitation from Robin Brooks
Thank you, Ebinport teachers and staff for your daily commitment to our students’ learning and care.
We are thankful for your listening, your planning, your enthusiasm, and most of all your love for all of your students.
It is rewarding but also costly work. You all do a wonderful job of supporting one another and here is one more opportunity to do
so.If there is interest, I’d like to convene a weekly group dedicated to mindfulness meditation. The group can include beginners as well as
those who already practice. The group would learn practices described in Eric Harrison’s book, Teach Yourself to Meditate in 10 Simple Lessons. Book purchase is not necessary to participate and you can attend as much or as little as you are able. Harrison describes mindfulness as a practice in which you, “focus on one thing while you watch other thoughts and emotions with detachment.” The exercises are simple, but not always easy for minds and hearts that are full. Thus, a part of the group’s purpose will be to support and encourage one another’s experience without judgment. Mindfulness gets a lot of buzz these days, but the benefits are well researched particularly in the areas of cardiovascular and digestive health in addition to greater clarity and peace of mind. I am the parent of a second grade student and have had two other students be blessed enough to graduate from Ebinport. I have a ministry background with most of my experience coming from teaching contemplative prayer; however this group would be focused only on mindfulness meditation techniques without religious context; however, you can always make those connections on your own if that is helpful to you. Time and place would be determined by those interested, but I am imagining 15-20 minutes before or after school, once a week. With blessings and thanks!
Robin Brooks
