Board Brief

April 10, 2023
As part of our district's commitment to open and transparent communication, we share this summary of Monday's school board planning work session.
Top Takeaways
Last Day of School & Graduation Dates
The Fayette County Board of Education confirmed that Friday, May 26, will be the last day of classes because FCPS will have met the state requirements for instructional days and hours in the 2022-23 school year without using weather make-up days. The board also agreed to add five flexible staff development days to allow employees to complete their contract obligations. The affected work calendars will be updated online this week.
In addition, district leaders released the schedule for our high school graduations in Rupp Arena, which will follow the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
Tuesday, May 30:
- 10 a.m. - Lafayette
- 2 p.m. - Paul Laurence Dunbar
- 6 p.m. - Tates Creek
Wednesday, May 31:
- 10 a.m. - Frederick Douglass
- 2 p.m. - Bryan Station
- 6 p.m. - Henry Clay
Specific information and details about ceremonies will be shared by each school.
Other Highlights
Representatives from Hanover Technology shared findings and recommendations after their audit of FCPS technology and data management. Our district's Office of Information & Analytics seeks more support staff to handle the expansive growth of data, devices, and technology systems.
Bill Bradford, a chief School Leadership officer who oversees a group of middle schools, reported on the Upbeat Engagement Survey of FCPS staff. The results highlighted the district's areas of strength, opportunities for improvement, and next steps for enhancing our employees' experience.
Where Can I Learn More?
On the Horizon
Among the agenda items for the April 24 board action meeting:
- A resolution for providing a third and final payment of seed money to the Fayette Education Foundation;
- A contract with Navigate 360 for continued social media monitoring and support of behavioral and suicide threat assessments; and

How School Board Meetings Work
The Fayette County Board of Education routinely meets twice a month, generally on the second and fourth Monday. The planning work session is an opportunity to receive extended presentations, review the agenda for the upcoming action meeting, and provide time for board members to ask questions and hold discussions with staff. The action meeting is when the board votes on proposals.
