~ IMPORTANT NOTES ~

FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK

Fall is in the air! We had a great week at Cambridge School, filled with learning and fun. The children are settling into their routines and the teachers are jumping into the new year's curriculum.

This coming week, we will celebrate the Week of Respect. The Week of Respect is a week that all schools in New Jersey honor to help promote positive friendships and respectful behavior towards all. As a school, Mrs. Doles and our School Safety/Climate Committee has created activities and announcements for each day.

Also this week, we will hold our 23rd Convocation Ceremony. Below is a brief history and overview of this wonderful ceremony. October is certainly a busy month! We have several wonderful drives and events coming up coordinated by both our PTO and the Cougar Council. Please read the information carefully.

Finally, as the weather changes, please send your children in warm clothes and jackets. We will go outside for recess everyday as long as it is not raining!

Have a wonderful weekend and stay warm!

Mrs. Capes :)

COUGAR COUNCIL - A Student Organization!

COAT DRIVE

The Cougar Council is coordinating a Fall Coat Drive! We will accept gently used coats from October 6th - October 31st. Please send in your old coats!!

SOCKTOBER

We are collecting *NEW* socks, as part of the SOCKTOBER event that will help homeless people across the united states. Please send in *new* socks to support this initiative! We will collect from October 6th - October 31st.

"Every night in the United States an estimated 600,000 people live on the streets. This October, SoulPancake and Kid President want 2 million people to prove that even the smallest acts of love, like donating a pair of socks, can make a big difference in the lives of our neighbors who are homeless."

Convocation - A Brief Overview

Cambridge School has been holding an annual Convocation Ceremony for the past 22 years! Yet, many parents are curios to know, “What is Convocation?” In its simplest definition, Convocation is a gathering of a group of people for a special purpose. At Cambridge School, that special purpose is to honor and celebrate the new school year and to welcome all those who are new to our community. Former Principal, Mrs. Willa Spicer, started this event. Mrs. Spicer also served as the interim High School Principal, at which time she brought a Convocation ceremony to SBHS. Currently, Cambridge and South Brunswick High School are the only two schools in South Brunswick that celebrate each school year with a Convocation Ceremony.

As part of the Cambridge Convocation, we honor and welcome all new students, beginning with our Kindergarten Class and then all students who are new to our community. Kindergarten classes are partnered with a 5th grade class for the formal processional, as this marks the beginning of the Kindergarten journey and the last year for our 5th grade students. In addition, the names of all Kindergarten students will be read aloud to mark the classes first official ceremonial “role call”. This is to bookend the education here at Cambridge with the tradition of calling the final “role call” as part of the 5th Grade Recognition Ceremony each year.

Our school’s highlighted Guiding Value for this year is “Take Care of Each Other”. To inspire our students to serve this cause, we are honoring an organization who embodies this value and works hard to constantly take care of our community.

We are all looking forward to a wonderful 23rd Annual Convocation Ceremony!
