Career Readiness Tip of the Month--Exploring Professionalism
Practicing professionalism forces you to learn more about yourself and the others working with you. Professional experiences do not have to be paid positions, but instead have you working with people to achieve a common goal, which can be in the workplace, group project, or even a campus club/organization. When in these situations, pay attention to your strengths and your areas for growth; take account of what you enjoy most about these experiences. In doing so, you can discover ways to explore potential career options that include these in the future.
Additionally, you can also learn aspects of professionalism through job shadowing. By observing the daily work of a professional in your field of interest, you can learn more about the expectations and atmosphere you may wish to pursue. The Tribe in Action Externship program this winter provides you with the opportunity to represent yourself professionally while getting a better understanding of an industry or job that you find interesting.
If you're considering participating in a Tribe in Action Externship, be sure to attend the required orientation session this Wednesday, October 3 at 5:30pm, What I Wish I'd Known - Externships. (more details below)

TribeCareers Tip of the Month--How to Apply for Externships
Are you exploring different career paths or trying to find engagement opportunities for Winter Break? The Tribe in Action Externship Program is a collaborative effort between The Cohen Career Center and external partners to generate job shadowing experiences for William & Mary students. Externships typically last one day during the Winter Break session, and provide students with an inside look at a given professional industry. Additionally, students gain networking experience, and lessons in demonstrating their experiences as part of their professional story. A variety of industries will be represented including healthcare, finance/investment banking, law, theater/the arts, human services, and more.
A great way to apply for Externships like the ones described in the Tribe in Action is through Tribe Careers. Below we will show you how to apply for Tribe in Action through Tribe Careers, however, you can use the same strategy for internships, some on campus positions, and other externship opportunities outside Tribe in Action.
As a reminder, here's where to find it: (see image below)
- Log in to TribeCareers.wm.edu
- Click on Jobs > Search Jobs/Internships > See All Jobs > Position Type: Externship/Shadow > Tribe In Action
- The same steps can be followed to find any position, just look at the different position options
