Scoliosis Screening - 5th Grade ONLY
As required by the State of NJ Health mandates, a scoliosis screening is required for all 5th grade students.
Scoliosis is defined as a condition of the spine in which the spine may curve from right or left. It is most commonly seen during the time of rapid growth and may progress if not treated. The purpose of this screening is to catch scoliosis in the early stages.
The procedure for scoliosis screening will require the removal of clothing from the waist up. The girls may wear a camisole or sports bra for the screening. The student will be visually inspected as he/she stands and then bends forward. This will be performed in the Health Office. The boys and girls will be screened separately.
A student may be exempt from the exam only upon the receipt of a written request/email from a parent or guardian by: SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 27th. All exemptions should be sent to me at sally.kelly@chatham-nj.org
Thank you,
