Here At JRB

Open House
We are so excited to inform you about the annual beginning of the school year open house. On September 21st, from 6:30-7:30 PM, families will have a chance to visit classrooms and see lots of student work. You can enter and exit at your leisure, so there is no need for everyone to try to make it exactly for 6:30. In addition, you are invited to visit the cafeteria where groups from the school, district, and community will be able to chat with you. Finally, our specials team (PE, Tech, Music, and Art) will be set up in the back lobby (near the elevator) to answer any questions about specials classes. Parking is always tight, so please use the following guidelines:
- Park along the right side of the back road.
- Park along the right side of the main entrance.
- Park along the school side of Williams Rd.
We are so excited to have you join us!
Let Us Know Your Usual Plan
Please let the school know your 'usual plan' for your child at the end of the day. Sending in a note that states if your child will be going to parent pick-up, bus, or extended day on a regular basis will be very helpful. You can also email jrboffice@awrsd.org with this information as well.
Attendance is taken promptly each morning. Please call JRB (978) 827-5750 or email jrboffice@awrsd.org when your child will be absent or late for school. Please state your name(first and last name), your child’s name, teacher, and the reason for absence. If you must speak to someone, please call after 7:45 AM. If we do not hear from you, we will contact you at home or work. This system is to ensure the safety of your child.
From the Nurse’s Office
Welcome back! I hope everyone enjoyed their Summer.
WATER BOTTLES: Please send your student to school with a water bottle everyday. Hydration is essential to feeling well, being well, and doing well.
ILLNESS/ABSENCES: As a reminder, all parents/guardians must contact the main office in the morning if your child is going to be absent, and inform them why they will not be attending. If your child has been ill, they should be free of a temperature for 24 hours before returning to school without the use of fever reducing medication. The 24 hour rule also applies to vomiting, and diarrhea. Your student must be 24 hours free of these symptoms before returning to school.
STUDENT HEALTH FORMS: Please continue to return the Student Emergency Health forms as soon as possible.
PHYSICAL EXAMS AND IMMUNIZATIONS: In accordance with the AWRSD Policy and Massachusetts State Law, physical exams and documentation of immunizations are required for all students entering Kindergarten and 3rd grade. All students entering Pre-school are also required to present documentation of immunizations in order to attend. The law states that medical exemptions must be presented at the beginning of each school year. Massachusetts Department of Public Health additionally requires annual renewal of religious exemptions in writing at the beginning of each school year. If you choose not to immunize your child for religious or medical reasons, you must provide the nurse with a written statement annually per the above state guidelines.
Finally, please continue to routinely check our website for the most current health services information here.
As always, feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.

Bus Information
You can find the district bus routes by clicking here. The times and bus route numbers are on each sheet. Any questions about bus routes should be sent to bussing@awrsd.org. Please include your child’s full name, school and address in your inquiry.
As of the start of the school year and until further notice, we will not be allowing students to take the bus to a friend's house after school.
Creative Corner from Mrs. Disalle
Hello and welcome back to school! I'm very excited to start our new year in the art room! As always, we will be starting off the year by creating designs for our fundraiser, Square 1 Art. This fundraiser allows us to purchase supplies for artistic experiences that many students in other districts do not have due to funding. You can find a link to the Square 1 Art website, as well as a variety of other information about the art program by visiting the art class website http://jrbriggsart.weebly.com/. Be sure to check out the art room wish list, links to art class social media (where you can find regular updates of what we are doing in class), art curriculum and MORE!
I look forward to seeing the students on Monday and meeting the new kindergarteners on September 5th! Feel free to reach out with any questions you may have!
International Dot Day
International Dot Day, a global celebration of creativity, courage and collaboration, began when teacher Terry Shay introduced his classroom to Peter H. Reynolds’ book The Dot on September 15, 2009.
The Dot is the story of a caring teacher who dares a doubting student to trust in her own abilities by being brave enough to “make her mark”. What begins with a small dot on a piece of paper becomes a chance for her to be brave and believe in herself.
And each year on International Dot Day – with the help of people just like you –the inspiration continues. What started as a story in the pages of a book is transforming teaching and learning around the world as people of all ages re-discover the power and potential of creativity in all they do.
This Friday, September 15th, we will celebrate Dot Day at JRB. Students and teachers will design their very own “dot” and hang it in the hallway. We would also like everyone to wear polka dots on Friday!
