SVT & STEM Academy Newsletter
December 2021 Edition
Katie's Message:
Wow! We made it to December! While December is a short month at school, it is packed full of things and tends to move quickly for many of us. It is also a time to reflect on the last year and all that it has encompassed. For me, that has included a big change to this new home and I have truly enjoyed getting to know our students, staff, families, and programs. I have really appreciated watching our students take time to give back this Fall and serve others through our Community Day, Coats 4 Kids distribution, Toys for Tots drive, tutoring, STEM Camp, and so many other avenues, which has helped set the stage for an amazing finale to the year. If your student is looking for opportunities to be involved at school or serve others, we have them; please encourage them to continue making SVT a place of comfort and belonging for all.
I absolutely love this time of year when things seem to sparkle a bit brighter and we are able to have some time to celebrate and rejoice in all things good. As we approach break, I hope everyone is able to take a step back and enjoy time at home gearing up for a great new year and fresh start! You’ll see our next newsletter in 2022! Thank you for all you do to continuing making SVT the amazing place it is. May the end of your 2021 be a great one!
Warm regards and holiday wishes,
Katie Louie, Principal
Counselor's Corner:
Happy Holidays! We know this season can be especially difficult on many families. Each year SVT chooses to support a few families through gifts and/or gift cards. We hope to be able to ease the burden that sometimes the Christmas season can present. If this could be a support to your family, please reach out to Mrs. Dresback, our counselor, by emailing her: hdresback@cvsd.org. We are here to support your student and your family any way that we can. Please communicate with us anytime.

STEM Camp Recap:
Our first STEM Camp of the year was a HUGE success! We had over 130 students in grades 2-8 and almost 60 SVT student volunteers that helped make this event so wonderful. Students rotated to four different stations with our Skill Center programs & STEM classes including Advanced Manufacturing for box building, Fire Science to roll hoses and practice search & rescue, Advanced Biomedical Sciences to learn about organs and do a little “operation” and EMT where they built their own lungs. Students learned about computer science by creating coding bracelets and playing and editing computer games. They even built circuits while learning Spanish vocabulary! The marshmallow towers were a big hit, and tasty, too! We are so glad that this event is back and we were able to welcome the younger students in to see what we do. We cannot wait for the next one!
Students worked with the Advance Manufacturing class to build metal boxes.
Advanced Biomedical Sciences let students try "operation" and learned about organs.
Students built circuits while learning Spanish vocabulary.
Community Day was a wonderful opportunity for our students to give back to many! Our students were recognized for their work in the Spokesman-Review. Check out the article below!
