Fifth Grade Newsletter

March 27, 2016

Dear Parents:

Please remember that we have a half-day on Thursday, March 31. Students will be dismissed at 11:20 and lunch will not be served. Spring Break begins after school Thursday. School resumes on Tuesday, April 12.

Mrs. Muladore's Class Notes

Mrs. Muladore's class will go to the Charlevoix pool on Tuesday. Students need to bring their bathing suit and towel.

Any last minute book orders can be turned in by Monday- the order will be placed at the end of the school day on Monday. We will be in need of snacks when we return from Spring Break. Thank you for helping with this!

English

We will finish reading From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler this week. Students will also have time to work on their writing. We hope to have stories for the Crooked Tree student writing contest completed by Thursday.

Social Studies

We have started our new unit on the New England colonies. Students have new vocabulary words to start learning!

Math

This week, students will continue to work with subtracting mixed numbers on Monday and Tuesday. On Wednesday and Thursday, students will be reviewing this fraction unit. There will be no homework over Spring Break unless students have missing work.

Science

We are continuing with the Water Cycle and what molecules do at each stage of the water cycle. Last week we posed a question "do we drink the same water that the Dinosaurs did". We are still working through that concept but hopefully they can answer and explain why after this week.

No homework this week. Enjoy your Spring Break!

March is Reading Month

Encourage your student to read and record minutes at home. Minute slips (from the calendar) are collected on Fridays. We will have some drawings for prizes later this month.

13 Colonies Musical

Mark your calendars! The fifth graders will be performing a play about the 13 Colonies at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, May 3 at the Middle/High School Auditorium.

M-Step Testing

We will be taking the ELA M-Step test April 12, 13 and 14. Students will take the math and social studies portions April 19, 20 and 21.
