The WAVA Wave

June 1, 2016

A Message from our Principal...

“If what you did yesterday seems big, you haven’t done anything today.” (Lou Holtz). With 34 of the 26 weeks of school in our rear-view mirrors we certainly have much to be proud of and celebrate as the school year comes to a close. Yet, we have two more weeks to do big things, to finish strong. When I go for runs, I always cross the finish line running, not jogging or walking. This is my hope for you as well. One of the items to finish up is deciding on your plans for next year. We have heard from 75% of our current families, 65% of our students are returning! We need to hear from the remaining 25% who have either indicated that they are undecided or have not responded. Let’s live out each of these values: Communicate, Collaborate, Celebrate.

Remember, what you do and what you say matters every single day at WAVA!

Gratefully…

Bryant Mettler
Elementary School Principal

The Counselor Connect

Hello WAVA Families-

The school year is wrapping up, and I want to thank all of our wonderful Learning Coaches for your work with students, teachers, and specialists this year. As you are very aware, it is not an easy job being a WAVA Learning Coach! However, we have seen tremendous growth in our WAVA students this school year, and we know that couldn’t happen without involved and dedicated Learning Coaches. Take some time to reflect on all that your student has accomplished, and find a moment to celebrate their growth.

We certainly hope to see you back at WAVA in the Fall. However, if your path includes a school change, please know that we all wish you our very best. Enjoy your summer!

As always, feel free to contact me directly for additional resources or support.

Thank you!

Mrs. Martin

This outing supports learning standards because inspires kids to read. Sharon the children's librarian gives the most animated, and engaging book talks. These talks plant the seeds for books students to read this summer. She also talks about KCLS Summer Reading Program, which encourages kids to read, read, read this summer. This supports ELA CCSS because the best way to become a better reader is to read. Get hooked on a book, and then you want to read more. Your comprehension and fluency improve the more you read.

Please k-mail Nicole Reynoldson if you would like more info.

Using Texting/SMS for Communication

Good news for the 2016-17 school year, WAVA will be communicating with families via text messaging! We want to be sure you are receiving the most current school communications. Please be sure to check that your primary phone number is up-to-date in the OLS. Starting in August, we will begin sending 1-2 text communications per month to our enrollment approved families. If you do not wish to be contact via text, you will need to reply with STOP when you receive our first text message – this will permanently opt you out. If you change your mind and would like to begin receiving text message, you can contact Denise Roberts at info@wava.org to reverse the decision.
