Principal's Message
Dear Oak Hills Families,
Have you noticed the beautiful designs and inspiring quotes on our portables? Kristin Hamann and the Girl Scout troop #45689 created a proposal for the murals in September and patiently went through the district’s facility Improvement project
process . Last weekend, the girls were able to complete the beautiful mural. Thank you to our students, Ava Brenner, Megan Karim, Natalie Styles, Aly Wind, Sophia Coalson, Amelia Sanders, Savannah Rucker, Kyra Hamann, Sarah Scullion and Erin Kindred. Katie Daniels, Zoe Schenker and Tanna Schenker who attend Jacob Wismer also graciously contributed their time. Thanks to their efforts, our portables look very cheerful!
There are additional staff changes that I would like to share. We have just hired our new Academic Learning Center teacher for the lower ALC classroom. Colleen Steiz will be replacing Emily Lee who is excited to join our Kindergarten team.
Here is a note from Colleen:
I received my BA from the University of Montana, where I studied Psychology and Special Education. For part of my student-teaching experience I traveled to Ireland to teach in a K-12 special education school in the beautiful town of Ennis, just south of Galway. While in Ireland I was able to connect with my Irish family, and I have dreams of returning there with my own two kids one day! Following my travels, I was hired to start a new K-8 program for students with behavior and emotional needs back in Missoula, Montana. After 2 years in Missoula, my husband and I decided to move closer to my family in Oregon where I worked in the Hillsboro School District in a K-3 program for students with behavior, emotional and social needs for 12 years. In 2008 I earned my Master of Science degree in Special Education from Portland State University. My parents have lived in the Oak Hills neighborhood for many years now and I love this community! I am beyond excited to work in the ALC classroom and join this amazing school team.
Enjoy the weekend!
Warm regards,
Sheila Baumgardner
Parking Lot Safety
Parking Lot Safety: Parents, we know the arrival/ departure process is chaotic and fast moving. We need your help to keep it running smoothly and safely for us all, especially if you drive. Please follow the guards, signs and staff directing you. Please know that the school parking lot speed is 5 mph.
Also, put your cell phone away while driving, including when picking up or dropping off your children. We all must keep our eyes and attention on the task to ensure safety and efficiency for all.
