I thought the last issue would be the last of 2015 but more acceptances have come in so I want to shout out a loud Chief Tribe congrats to those students who have recently been accepted to college. New scholarship opportunities are also listed below!

College Application Progress

Class of 2016 Application Statistics as of 12/22/2015

  • 67% of students have applied to college or trade school
  • 3.07% of students have firm plans to or have joined the military
  • 212 applications submitted
  • 48 reported college acceptances
  • 15.5% of students have reported that they intend to enter the workforce upon graduation

Application Results

Now that many of the college applications are done, the acceptances are starting to roll in. Please remember to bring a copy of your college acceptance letters in to the guidance office. If your notification was in an email or on an online college account, you could forward the email or screenshot the screen showing the acceptance. My email address is

We will not announce your college of attendance if we do not have evidence of your acceptance. It is also helpful for us to collect this data as it will help us guide future applicants to each college. Even if you receive a denial letter, it is very helpful if you can provide that information to me. Certainly, I won't share your individual information with anyone but would like to collect the data to better assist future students.

2016 Mike Munchack Community Service Scholarship

Amount: $6,300

Deadline: March 31, 2016

The scholarship will be awarded for a one (1) year period only Only open to graduating seniors Demonstrate commitment through community service activities Demonstrate academic achievement Applicants must be graduation seniors from a public, private, parochial or charter school within either of the two counties. Must submit a valid FAFSA Score (EFC Number). Be accepted by an accredited university, college or trade school in a two or four year degree program.

Anthracite Golf Association Scholarship

The 2016 AFA Scholarship Application is now available online at The deadline for applications is 6:00pm March 1st, 2016. In 2015 the AGA awarded $10,000 in scholarships to students in Pennsylvania. Since the AGA scholarship program began in 1986 over $175,000 has been awarded to over 135 student athletes.

2016 PACB Foundation Scholarship Program

Deadline: February 12, 2016

Amount: $1,000

The Pennsylvania Association of Community Bankers (PACB) has established the PACB Foundation that provides scholarships to children of PACB member institutions' employees and directors. The schoalrships are available to high school seniors who are planning to attend an accredited college, university or community college on a full-time basis.
