From the RCS Principal's Desk

Building a better learning community one student at a time.

This week at RCS and a few High fives

In kindergarten students were working hard on inferencing skills and new popcorn words. In first grade students continued working In the Readers Workshop. In second grade students created tally charts,. In third grade I had a chance to read with numerous students and have them share why they choose the books in the book boxes. In fourth grade I watched the "protractorologists" work really hard building angles. In fifth grade the students were focusing on myths and had to figure out how a myth is made. In sixth grade, the students were engaged in the fantastic 55 higher order thinking skills.

This week many of the teachers participated in a readers workshop training with Ms. Clare from Teachers for Teachers. At one point, every k-2 teacher in the district along with other teachers watched a lesson in our first grade. They nailed it. I could not be more proud of the excellent teaching and learning that is happening there.

This Week's High 5's

On Tuesday, RCS participated in the first real lockdown drill of the year. As always, the students were amazing and performed exactly as we have previously discussed. The 10 members of local and state law enforcement were also very impressed with our preparation and the seriousness that was taken by all students, and staff.
