Exciting news from the Reading Corner—the in person Scholastic Book Fair is BACK!
This one week event is an opportunity for students of all ages to build their home libraries, buy books for their classroom, and further their love of reading. As always, all purchases benefit our school.
The fair will be before school (7:45-8:30) and after school (2:45-3:45) on October 4-8 in the Markell Hall chapel. Families will enter and leave using the E Victor street doors to reduce risk, and of course, masks are required.
If you can’t make it to the Fair, then shop online at our school’s Virtual Book Fair. All
orders ship directly to your home, and shipping is free for book orders over $25.
Your online orders will also benefit our school.

Astronomy Update!
Ms. Bre Harris our Middle School Science Specialist shared this:
"In the first couple weeks of Astronomy, we have been learning about the importance of robotic arms in space exploration. Students made their own 'robotic arms' out of meters sticks, tape, popsicle sticks, spoons, and string. Then, they tested their designs by trying to capture a satellite in orbit (toilet paper roll hanging from the ceiling) and completing various tasks, such as putting the roll in a bucket, through a loop, and on a pencil. They did a great job working together and coming up with some unique designs!"
STEM: Apple Toothpick Challenge in Ms. Dizon's Class
Ms. Dizon shared this:
"After reading the book “Ten Apples Up On Top!”, each student (pretending to be engineers) set out to build the tallest apple structure from apple cubes and toothpicks. First attempt wouldn’t stand. They analyzed and discussed what to do so the structure would stand. It was decided to build the bottom part first and then keep building. We then used a ruler to measure the tallest structure. They also counted how many toothpicks and apple cubes they used to build the structure."
Cross Country Meet - Blaine - The Results are in!
"Our second cross country meet we had in Blaine yesterday. There were 5 girls teams and 5 boys teams: Franklin, Meridian, Vista, Blaine, and Lynden. Our girls got 4th and our boys got 1st (same as our first meet). While our times were a little slower because of it being a tougher course, our athletes performed phenomenally! We put more of a focus on the place they got instead of their time due to the difficulty of the course, and most of our athletes got the same place or better!
Some honorable mentions are (girls) Adelle O. 4th place, Grace D. 9th place, (boys) Lassen R. 6th, Sean L. 7th, Van M. 9th, and Odin O. 10th."
Middle School Electives - Makerspace
Ms. Bre Harris shared this:
1) Contains your name
2) Shows your favorite part about school
3) Shows 2 of your hobbies/interests
4) Freestanding
5) Can fold into a binder
6) Contains 1 moving part
In our second week of Makerspace, we put our building skills to test with various rounds of paper building contests."
Piñata Making with Sra. Smith
In middle school Wednesday means elective day! Below is the description and some photos from Sra. Smith's class in action.
Piñatas are fun and festive for all seasons. In this elective you and a partner will learn how to craft and design a paper mache piñata. This can be completed in 5 easy steps. From strawberries to the more traditional 7-coned star, you will use your imagination and hands to create your masterpiece! In this elective you will also learn the history of the piñata and how it came to be a centerpiece of Mexican celebrations.
They built the structure this week. I cannot wait to see the final Piñatas.
