The Wellwood Globe
Wellwood International February 2021
From the Principal's Desk
Greetings Wellwood Families,
Wellwood's Reentry Planning Team has been very busy ensuring that we are ready to welcome students back to the building. We are going to hold a parent information evening on February 23 @ 6:00 PM. We will use the Google Meet code: WISWildcat. In the meantime, if you have any specific questions, please send me an email. I am happy to answer questions that you may have.
I wanted to share that report cards are just about ready to be shared. Starting February 11, 2021 at 4 p.m., report cards for the first and second quarter will be in our Focus system. Students and families can log in to Focus using the student’s login information in the student portal. Directions are available and the process can be viewed in a video with words or without words. Parents may also request a paper copy of the report card mailed to their home by contacting Wellwood. Please call 410-887-1212 or send Mrs. Henn an email at chenn@bcps.org.
Stay well and take care!

Happy February Wellwood!
The Special Education Resource Center (SERC) staff Ellen and Felicia are amazing supports and can be reached by phone at 443-809-5443, by email at serc@bcps.org. Ellen helped me immensely earlier this week with a question I had. If you are interested in getting their emails with a few timely tips every Friday then shoot them a message to get on their email list.
1-SERC has scholarship funds available to assist active parents in attending workshops/ webinars and conferences. For more information on how to access scholarship funds to attend one of these opportunities or any other educational conference you are interested in please email Ellen directly at egalvez@bcps.org. Two upcoming opportunities that might interest you include: The PEAK Conference on Inclusive Education and Michelle Garcia Winner's Strategies for Adults with Subtly Significant Social Emotional Learning Challenges. On Michelle Garcia Winner's page you can also find recorded webinars on various social emotional topics that can affect how children access their schooling.
2-Maryland Learning Links and the Maryland State Department of Education have joined together to provide resources to help families understand the IEP process during both remote and/ or hybrid learning. See below for a sample and visit https://marylandlearninglinks.org/iep-process-virtual-and-hybrid-learning/ for more supports.
3-Please check out our Winter Webinar flyer and follow the link to register. There is so much good stuff on there for this month, including a few from the very popular Dr. Tana Hope from Kennedy Krieger. See below.
As always feel free to contact me with questions or concerns,

BCPS Calendar
During a typical school year, BCPS distributes calendars to all families. Due to buildings being closed, BCPS is sharing a link. If you would like a copy of the calendar, please let me know. I will print the calendar and mail it to you. YOu can also access the BCPS calendar from the BCPS website.
BCPS Calming Rooms
During overwhelming times in our life, it's important to find ways to relax and cope. The BCPS virtual calming room is a space that has been designed for students, families, and staff to identify and implement tools and strategies for navigating emotions and feelings.
The BCPS virtual calming room is broken down into seven categories: Animals, Books and Games, Creative, Mindfulness and Movement, Resources, Sensory, and Virtual Tours.
The BCPS virtual calming room is a result of collaborative efforts by the Mind Over Matters Campaign workgroup, Mental Health Services, Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), and the Office of Psychological Services.
You can access the Calming Room by clicking on this link.
