Term 3 - Issue 15 23rd September 2022
PUPIL FREE DAY - MONDAY 10th OCTOBER
TERM 4 BEGINS TUESDAY 11th OCTOBER
Dear Parents & Caregivers,
After an extremely busy term, our children, staff and parents have earned themselves a well deserved break. Over the last couple of weeks we have managed to squeeze in a number of events that has seen our community come together to celebrate our children.
Thank you to all our parent volunteers and the P&F for another successful School Disco last Friday evening. The crazy hair theme was a big hit and the night ran very smoothly thanks to the parents and IMCC students who gave up their time. A special thanks to Ellaine Brecio (Angela PPW) for the addition of the awesome 'Photo Booth'. It proved to be a huge hit with the children and gave them some great memories of the night!
Today, we farewell Mrs Evans as she begins her parental leave as her and husband Brendan expect their first child in November. We wish both Caitlin and Brendan well as they embark on the journey of parenthood and look forward to meeting the new addition in the near future. We also farewell Mrs Coad as she explores other teaching opportunities in Term 4. To start Term 4, we will welcome back Mrs Melissa Rossi into the Year 1W class and we also welcome Miss Zoe Walton into 1B. Both are very excited at the prospect of finishing the year with our Year 1's.
I am also pleased to announce that Mrs Tara Coker has been appointed as the ongoing Science Teacher to replace Mrs Vescovi. Mrs Coker has been a member of our community as a teacher for over 10 years and has done a wonderful job leading Science in Mrs Vescovi's absence this year. We have also appointed Miss Grace Giglia-Smith to join our staff in 2023. Grace is currently the Year 2 teacher at St Denis in Joondanna and is very excited to join our community next year.
During the thanksgiving and graduation mass at the conclusion of this year, we will have the opportunity to officially farewell Mrs McDonald, Mrs Vescovi and Mrs Coad.
Last week was our annual Athletics Carnival and what a fantastic week it was! On Wednesday, we had our inaugural 400m, Jumps and Throws. Although the weather wasn't ideal, the parent helpers and IMCC students were fantastic in ensuring the day ran smoothly and like clockwork. The thought behind separating these events and celebrating them as a community meant that children were given the opportunity to experience success in front of their parents and peers for events that would traditionally have been completed during school phys ed classes.
The Friday carnival saw us enjoy much more favourable weather after a shaky start. The sportsmanship and camaraderie in and between factions was great to see. Our school values were well and truly on display and each child did their very best and stayed to support their faction. Thank you to all the parents for supporting us in having the children stay for the day to cheer on others and be part of the team spirit. We were very proud of the way the children represented themselves.
A huge thanks to the IMCC students again, parent volunteers, staff and of course, Ms Hamilton. As I expressed on the day, these events take a lot of time and organisation and are only possible thanks to the commitment of everyone involved. Thank you also to Darren from the Pitch Inn Food Truck and Tim from Gingernut Coffee for making themselves available. Let's face it, the highlight had to be the parent race though.
GRANDPARENTS DAY / YEAR 1 ASSEMBLY
Another wonderful turnout for our Grandparents Day assembly on Wednesday, which saw our Year 1 children deliver a Grandparents themed performance, complete with dress ups and our performing arts children showcase their talents.
Many of the instrumentalists have only been learning an instrument with Musicorp and their tutor Jesse since the start of this year, whilst our Choir and Liturgical dancers gave up many lunch times and outside school hour sessions to deliver such a polished performance. For those parents who could not attend, the event was streamed via this link:
IRENE MCCORMACK CATHOLIC COLLEGE YEAR 7 2023 BURSARY
Congratulations to Isaac Canzirri who was presented the IMCC Year 7 2023 Bursary by Deputy Principal Andrew Billingsley at the assembly on Wednesday. Isaac is a worthy recipient amongst some outstanding applicants. Thank you to all the children who applied and to Mr Billingsley for coming to present the bursary in front of our community.
A reminder that to begin Term 4, children have a two week transition period to move into summer uniform. The uniform policy is attached so please see below and the contact details for the uniform shop should you require any last minute items.
TERM 4 EVENTS
Please see the attached below for a list of Term 4 events. With only 9 weeks of school, there are a number of events to be aware of. As always, for the most up-to-date calendar, please check the Live Calendar link below.
THE ASSISI DIFFERENCE
Mrs Evans in her role as our Digital Technology leader has been very busy creating a promotional video for our wonderful school. Many hours were spent videoing the children at work and play, then putting it all together with music and edits. The final product is above and will be embedded on our website and social media platforms. A very nice parting gift from Mrs Evans as no doubt her attention will turn to videos of her new daughter!
Another disrupted term, but credit to all staff, parents and especially children for their resilience in managing the changes once again. The two week break will hopefully provide all children and families a chance to reset and spend some quality time together. For Mr Baker, September holidays always signifies the AFL GF which is marked into the calendar early in the year. I'm looking forward to a great contest between two exceptional sides and am backing the Swans to take it out.
Happy holidays and we'll see you back here on Tuesday 11th October.
ALTAR SERVER TRAINING & PRACTICE SESSION
Altar Server Training will go ahead next term for students in Years 4-6 wishing to participate. Please make sure you have returned your form to the office. More information will be provided on SEESAW.
