EV VISION: TO BE A HEALTHY AND LITERATE COMMUNITY

The steps we have taken towards this lofty vision are many. The strategies used to attain this vision, for the most part, have made attempts to be inclusive, equitable, diverse and driven by the students and families in our school community. As we approach the end of the year I wanted to take a minute to remind us of all we have done to move towards a powerful community of learners.

  • Universidad de padres started and we began to develop parent leadership
  • Town Hall meetings with community and staff to identify areas of strength and need
  • Valley Vibes Orchestra began at EV
  • After school enrichment provided by the PTO
  • Sonoma County did an asset map of our neighborhood
  • We met the program officers from Cowell
  • Worked as a staff to adopted a set of values and beliefs around literacy
  • Parents funded a Parent Outreach Coordinator for 2 days a week. The beginnings of the FRC!
  • We adopted Readers and Writers as our literacy currciulum
  • We opened a fully operational FRC providing mental health services
  • Teachers collaborate weekly
  • Teachers receive on going professional development
  • Teachers College provides PD on site
  • On going parent forums on important topics
  • Students are making progress in reading!
  • We are reclassifying ELs at a high rate!

From Bob Gossett

Dear EV Staff,

I just wanted to make sure and tell you how much I appreciate the sing-a-longs at your school. Your students are well behaved, participate in a very appropriate way and put a smile on my face each time I finish singing with them. I think when you retire from doing something you love and you still get to do something you love to do, you are a pretty lucky guy. Thank you for your efforts and be proud of those kids - they are the best!

Sincerely,

Bob Gossett
