FHS Gifted and Talented News
Greetings!
I am Elly Gilbert, the district Gifted and Talented Specialist. This is my 18th year of teaching, and in that time I've taught English/Language Arts (including Advanced Placement Language AND Literature) in a variety of middle and high schools, as well as a little bit of US History. I've also been a reading specialist and was once upon a time the GT Specialist for FIS. I am excited to be back in this very special district where I first began my teaching career and where my children attend.
This year, Gifted and Talented is a full time position for the first time in several years. I am stationed at SSS for 75% of my week and at FHS the remaining 25%. I am at FHS on Mondays and Wednesdays from 8-11 and I will be in the learning lab until further notice. On Monday, I meet with a group of juniors as their RISE teacher. From 10-11, I am available to meet with students. I am also available on Wednesdays. I am working on a rotation that will allow me to check in with every identified student at least twice a quarter, but I'm still figuring out who is where and when! Until that schedule is prepared, please let your students know that they can come see me in the learning lab for any GT related needs.
I am excited that the district has provided time for high school students to receive services. Gifted and Talented at the high school level looks a bit different, but it certainly shouldn't disappear! It is my hope that this is just the beginning of a very strong program district wide.
