Swansboro High School
Week of March 17, 2019
Good Afternoon and Happy St. Patty's Day Pirate Families,
Thank you for another great week at Swansboro High School. This past week included a fun visit by NC State on Monday, the ACT for 11th grade students on Tuesday and a productive visit by the National Math and Science Initiative on Thursday. Our school is being considered for a grant that would accelerate opportunities for our students to participate in AP and Honors courses over the next 2 years.
Congratulations to our orchestra students who participated in MPA on Friday and received an excellent rating on stage and a superior in sight reading. We are very proud of their scores and their professionalism at the event. Our softball team won their games at Croatan on Wednesday night and our soccer team had a victory on Friday night against Clinton. Congratulations to Mrs. Sheehan for receiving a donor's choose grant valued at $700.
This week will include men's golf at 1 pm and strategic planning at 4 pm on Monday, men's tennis at Northside and baseball, softball and soccer at home on Tuesday night, track at home, baseball at South Lenoir and project graduation at 6 pm on Wednesday, soccer at home and tennis at West Carteret on Thursday and our first home lacrosse game which will be followed by a student bonfire on Friday night. The bonfire is free and will be held from 8-10 pm. We will sell smore kits and hot dogs at the bonfire. We would love to see a huge showing of support for our lacrosse team so please come out to join our festivities on Friday night. Kindergarten through 8th grade students who bring their lacrosse sticks get into the game for free!
This is also Unified Sports Week! Each day will have a fun theme, and students will share information to help classmates understand your fellow Pirates as we work toward making Swansboro High School an inclusive and welcome environment for ALL students! We believe that with knowledge, comes understanding. With understanding, comes inclusion!
The schedule for Unified Spirit Week is:
Monday: Dreaming of an Inclusive World- wear your pajamas!
Tuesday: #HatsOnForInclusion- Wear a hat - bonus points if it’s crazy!
Wednesday: Rock Your Socks Day- wear your craziest socks!
Thursday: Unified Sports Day- wear your favorite sports jersey!
Friday: Can’t Hide Our Pirate Pride Day- wear your club or class T-shirt!
We will also be hosting a Spread the Word: Inclusion March on Thursday during Homeroom. Bracelets for admission to the walk will be on sale during lunches Monday – Wednesday and will cost $1. On Tuesday, students will ALSO have the opportunity to sign our banner and pledge online to Spread the Word to End the R Word, and pledge to do your part to make our school community more inclusive.
