LVES Mission and Vision
Knowing our New Crew - Mrs. Hackworth
Hello Pony Family!
I am so excited to be part of Lewisville Elementary School and the 5th grade team this year! I taught in both Plano ISD and Richardson ISD teaching Kindergarten and 4th grades. I was born and raised East of here in a town called Sulphur Springs, TX where I attended school K-12. Go Wildcats! My parents still live there and my husband and I frequently go back and visit. I graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University in 2015. I have a TON of pride for my alma mater. Go Lumberjacks! I have one sister who teaches technical theater and 8th grade ELAR in Frisco ISD, a brother-in-law who is a percussion director in Prosper ISD and another brother-in-law who is a chemistry and physics teacher in Plano ISD. I have a lot of teachers in my family!
My husband and I recently got married June 23rd of this year. We love married life and he is a great teacher’s husband. He willingly cuts out lamination and grades papers! We had the most magical wedding and enjoyed a week in South Lake Tahoe for our honeymoon.
We love ALL things Disney and even took some of our engagement photos at Disney World. When we aren’t dreaming of being in Orlando, we are playing with our little Maltese named Google, visiting our niece Riley Kate and nephew Hudson, cooking, participating in our group at Prestonwood Baptist Church and catching up on all of our favorite shows.
I absolutely love teaching math and science. I grew up in a science house with my dad being an aerospace engineer and then married into more science with my husband being a chiropractor! I also really struggled with math growing up so I know how to reach those struggling students because I can relate to them at their age. I love helping those kids grow in their confidence with numbers!

A Peek into the LVES Handbook
Curriculum
TEKS are the state-mandated skills that comprise our curriculum. The LISD curriculum is written to address the TEKS to the appropriate depth and rigor. However, programming is not limited to the TEKS. LISD is committed to providing educational programs that will permit all children to develop their abilities and aptitudes to the fullest extent possible.
All teachers will plan lessons with the TEKs in mind and follow LISD’s curriculum. Following LISD’s curriculum and content area frameworks are not an option.
The LISD online curriculum is based on Understanding By Design (McTighe and Wiggins) and follows the UBD Stages for each unit of study. Teachers first plan with the TEKS in mind, then determine how they will assess mastery of that standard, then plan engaging lessons and strategies to reach those goals.
When students are working, it is expected that teachers are walking around the room, checking for understanding, and monitoring students. Grading papers, lesson planning, responding to emails, or other non-instructional tasks should be reserved to before or after school or during the conference period.
Texas Education Code requires that student mastery of TEKS be closely monitored and needed remediation determined.
A variety of formative and summative assessment tools/methods will be determined by the teacher to evaluate student mastery of TEKS, along with district-mandated assessments.
Teaching and learning will take place from “bell to bell.” We need to maximize every instructional minute.
It is expected that all students are taught a rigorous and engaging curriculum that is relevant and meaningful to the students.
There should be an emphasis on higher-level thinking and ongoing assessments. Activities should be hands-on as much as possible, using group activities, technology and differentiated instruction.
There should not be a strong emphasis on worksheets, especially in the early grades. In fact, worksheets should be kept to a minimum and should be used only if the concept being taught needs written practice that can’t be provided any other way.
Students should be writing every day in every grade level.
Content objectives and language objectives should be written on the board daily and utilized by and with students during the lessons so that students take ownership of their learning.
