Here at The CALC we find it important to highlight certain members of our community in order to show our appreciation for all of their great work. May's publication highlights Stephanie Ferraira, an ESL teacher here at The CALC, and all that she has accomplished. So continue reading to show your support for Stephanie!
Stephanie Ferrara began working at The Clinton Adult Learning during this past year and is currently teaching ESOL. She is originally from Rochester, New York until 2001 when she moved to Massachusetts. She is a mother of two, and avid animal lover, and a great teacher that we love having at The CALC!
Stephanie has always had a passion for growing the minds of determined students. She entered college with a major in elementary education and graduated with a degree in reading education. During this time she also obtained her administration certification.
Stephanie began her career in teaching by obtaining her SEI certification from the Massachusetts Department of Education. The SEI is a sheltered English immersion certification that is needed in order to become a teacher within the state of Massachusetts. Following her certification she had the realization that working with non native speakers would allow her to completely understand how the English language is taken in and processed. Her understanding of the process of learning a second language has made her a very successful teacher.
Stephanie’s experience at The Clinton Adult Center and student’s have taught her perseverance, resilience, and that “curiosity leads to better learning”. When asked to describe her time here she stated that the community was the most unique thing about The Clinton Adult Learning Center. It consistently provides a safe space for learning and friendship.
