From the Principal's Desk
Hello DiPietro Families,
I hope everyone has a wonderful three day weekend and you are able to connect, via zoom or with safe social-distancing with either family, neighbors, or someone you know may need a reach out.
Just a few updates for this week:
The Last Day of School is June 18th. This will be the last day for all students including Kindergarteners.
3rd Grade Memory Day will be on June 12th with a rain date of June 16th. We are asking that you keep the morning of these days open. More information will be emailed to our 3rd-grade families. Stay tuned!
Step-Up Day will be virtual. We are working out the details and information will be shared in the next newsletter. Please be aware that there will likely be one day for K-2 and another day for our 3rd graders.
There is a School Nutrition Update located below this note from me. I have also updated the "button" at the top of the newsletter with updated information about the School Nutrition Program for your ease. This valuable information to be able to use, as well as information to share with people in the Bellingham community.
Student Belonging Pick-Up times and dates will be shared out this week. When you come to pick up your child's belongings PLEASE BRING IN ANY SCHOOL ITEMS YOU MAY HAVE SUCH AS BOOK BAGS, LIBRARY BOOKS, TEACHER BOOKS ETC...
Title 1 Survey: If you have not done so already, please complete this Title 1 Survey ASAP. We need this to be completed in order to maintain our funding as well as to make improvements to our program based on what you share with us.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Your principal,
Miriam Friedman
School Nutrition Update:
Dear Bellingham Parents, Families and Community,
We first want to say that we miss you and hope you are well! Our District is happy to continue providing meals to ALL children 18 and under at absolutely no cost to you. You can pick up 2 breakfasts and lunches on Mondays, 2 breakfasts and lunches on Wednesdays and 3 breakfasts and lunches on Fridays per district student. This will allow you to have 7 of each meal to cover the entire week! Please see the attached flyer with the most current schedule.
Here are some reasons you should take advantage of the free meals being offered:
It’s comforting and familiar to your kids to have food from school
It extends your food budget and saves you time from prepping meals
You are helping the program stay financially afloat as the USDA is covering the costs of these meals during school closures
Breakfast will continue to be an assortment of muffin/bagel/danish/cereal with a fruit/juice cup included, while daily lunch options will be a variety of delicious and nutritious options! As a gentle reminder: Some meals will be perishable and need to be refrigerated, so it is highly recommended that you are able to store or consume quickly after receiving. We also offer some heat and serve pre-cooked meals with easy instructions (including but not limited to chicken nuggets/patty sandwiches, burgers, etc.).
Drive through service is available at the bus loop entrance of Bellingham Memorial School (130 Blackstone Street) from 11:30 am- 1:00 pm. Students are not required to be present at pick up and in order to practice social distancing, you just grab and go directly from your car. We have recently partnered with the YMCA to hand out the meals provided by our amazing and hard-working team. As a “bonus”, the Y is providing a grocery bag of food supplies on Fridays!
You can visit our District website School Nutrition page or check out our Program Facebook page (Bellingham Public Schools Nutrition and Wellness) for the most up to date information and feel free to contact our office if you have any questions. We hope that this will continue to help provide some ease during this time! While we miss seeing your students in the cafeteria, we wish you and your family all the best and look forward to seeing them soon!
With warmest regards,
Liz Bell
