CAREER DAY 2018!!!
On May 3rd, Wolcott High School hosted its bi-annual Career Day. Seventy-six guest presenters, representing more than fifty professions, shared their experiences with students. They gave detailed descriptions as to what it was like to be working in their particular fields, offered advice and answered student questions that could help prepare students for post-secondary training.
Students from all grades attended three presentations throughout the morning and were able to learn more about careers they are interested in. A variety of careers were represented; respiratory therapist, surgeon, PA, dental, medical assistant, APRN, nurse, physical therapist, shoe designer, audio engineer, mechanical engineer, structural engineer, software engineer, airplane mechanic, probation officer, federal agent, sports writer, television production, special education teacher, pre- school teacher, behavioral health, social worker, electrician, HVAC, plumber, and many more.
This learning opportunity for our students would not be possible without all of the volunteers. We would like to thank all the guest speakers who took time out of their busy schedules to share their experiences and advice with students. Parents, mentors, Wolcott High School alumni, mentors and community members made up the speakers. Many area businesses were represented; Wolcott Vet, Children’s Village, Advanced Physical Therapy, ESPN, Sikorsky, Pratt & Whitney, Advanced Electrical Contractors, Wolcott Volunteer Ambulance, Ameriprise Financial, Key Bank, IMTI and many more.
A special thank you goes out to Mr. Tutalo, our culinary teacher, and the culinary students that prepared all of the food for our speakers. It is the school’s hope that students became more aware of the many opportunities that are available to them and the importance of education to any career.

2018-2019 Common Application Essay Prompts
1. Some students have a background, identity, interest, or talent that is so meaningful they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please share your story.
2. The lessons we take from obstacles we encounter can be fundamental to later success. Recount a time when you faced a challenge, setback, or failure. How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the experience?
3. Reflect on a time when you questioned or challenged a belief or idea. What prompted your thinking? What was the outcome?
4. Describe a problem you've solved or a problem you'd like to solve. It can be an intellectual challenge, a research query, an ethical dilemma - anything that is of personal importance, no matter the scale. Explain its significance to you and what steps you took or could be taken to identify a solution.
5. Discuss an accomplishment, event, or realization that sparked a period of personal growth and a new understanding of yourself or others.
6. Describe a topic, idea, or concept you find so engaging that it makes you lose all track of time. Why does it captivate you? What or who do you turn to when you want to learn more?
7. Share an essay on any topic of your choice. It can be one you've already written, one that responds to a different prompt, or one of your own design.

SENDING AP SCORES TO COLLEGES
Viewing Scores Online
You can view your AP scores online at apscore.org starting in July of the year that exams were administered. Visit apscore.org after exams to learn when you can access your scores. Your online score report will include all of your AP scores if you've tested in the last four years.
Sending Scores Using Your AP Answer Sheet
Each year that you take AP Exams, you have the opportunity to send one free score report. You do this by entering the four-digit code of the college, university, or scholarship program on your first or "registration" AP answer sheet. If you didn't indicate a college on your answer sheet, or if you need to send score reports to additional colleges, you can order additional score reports online, or by mail or fax for a fee.
Ordering Score Reports Online
Log in to send scores now to colleges, universities and scholarship programs. The fee for standard delivery of score reports ordered online is $15 per report. The fee for rush delivery of score reports ordered online is $25 per report. Standard delivery takes approximately 7-14 business days, while rush delivery takes approximately 5-9 business days. The exact number of days depends on when you submit your request and the location of your score recipient.
Important: If your most recent AP Exam was over four years ago, you will not be able to view scores or order a score report online. You must use the archive score reporting service.
Ordering Score Reports by Mail or Fax
If you are unable to use the online score reporting system to send additional score reports to colleges, universities, or scholarship programs, you can mail or fax a signed, written request with payment to the address based on your payment method. The fee for standard delivery of score reports is $15 per report. The fee for rush delivery of additional score reports is $25 per report. Standard delivery takes approximately 7-14 business days, while rush delivery takes approximately 5-9 business days. - Name and address of your school
- Full name of the exam(s) for which you are requesting additional score reports (e.g., "English Literature and Composition", not "English") and the year(s) you took the exam(s)

- A signature from you or your parent/guardian
