Reading
Learning about Characters
We are going down memory lane with our old friend a.k.a. our book characters! This week we are going to learn about book characters and study about them as we jump back into reading fictional books.
As an added bonus, Mo Willem's Elephant and Piggy Are You Ready to Play Outside? will be our mentor text!
Fundations
Students will learn about the open syllable words. Words with open syllables end in a vowel and are not closed in by a consonant letter. Some examples of closed syllables are 'shy' - the y says /i/, therefore, it is a vowel and an open syllable.
Writing
Fictional Stories
In our new writing unit, students will begin writing fictional stories. Much like our personal narratives, students will think of a small moment that has happened to them and then turn this small moment into a fictional story. As well, these stories will be tied to strong emotions.
Math
What tool should I use?
Students will begin learning about measurement, specifically, choosing tools to measure with. Some of these tools are a yardstick, meter stick, ruler and a measuring tape.
2.MD.1 Measure the length of an object by selecting and using appropriate tools such as rulers, yardsticks, meter sticks, and measuring tapes.
