Science Olympiad

By Mrs. Wilhelm

The Science Olympiad Team had a great outing at the regional competition this year at Neumann College on March 5th. They competed against 30 other teams in 23 different events including Robo Cross, Boomilever, Solar system, and Simple Machines. Although this was a young team, many of the members were able to improve upon their events from last year and several events scored in the top 10 or right below. Congratulations on a job well done!

CBSD Music Program Accolades

For the second year in a row, the Central Bucks School District has been selected as one of the Best Communities for Music Education by the NAMM Foundation. This doesn’t happen without the continued support of all of the stakeholders, including parents, other community members, students, teachers, administrators and school board members. Thank you to everyone for your continued support in Tamanend's music program, for the benefit of our students!

Young Engineers' Night- This Thursday!

We cordially invite you to attend the First Annual Central Bucks School District “Young Engineers’ Night!” This event will take place on April 3rd, 2014 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at CB High School EAST. This night is geared toward our middle and elementary school students, so this will be a “hands-on” experience. Students will be exposed to technology such as CO2 cars, laser cutting, propeller powered vehicles, styro gliders and they will have an opportunity to explore a state of the art TV studio. Interested students can make a Young Engineers’ badge in the Manufacturing Races exhibit, and if he or she is able to collect all 6 stickers they will be awarded a certificate classifying them as a “Certified Young Engineer.“

Plan for Excitement this Summer

The Central Bucks Community School offers a terrific variety of camps and activities through its Summer Fun Program. Many of the programs are run by our very own Tamanend teachers. Click on the link below to start planning now for an exciting summer.

Tamanend Middle School PSSA - THIS WEEK:

7th Grade:
  • Math & Reading Tests: Today and Tomorrow

8th Grade:

  • Math & Reading Tests: Today and Tomorrow
  • Writing Tests: April 8-10
  • Science Tests: April 29-30

The best way to prepare for test days (and all school days) is for students to get a good night's sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, bring a bottle of water and a snack to school. Students should bring two #2 pencils and a calculator for the math tests. Students should not bring their phone or any other personal electronic devices to school on testing days. Cell phones and all other personal electronic devices are prohibited by the state during testing. Students often forget that they have phones on them, that is why we ask that students do not bring them to school AT ALL during testing days. Thank you for your support.

  • There is a Parent Portal app for your smartphone. Click here for more information.
  • Click here to view previous Tamanend Connections from 2013-2014.
  • For information about Tamanend's 2013-2014 Yearbook, click here.
  • We frequently conduct safety drills here at Tamanend Middle School to ensure that our students are prepared for various types of emergencies. It is important that your student dresses appropriately for weather, including shoe choices.
  • Because the Parent Portal allows parents/guardians to check student progress on a regular basis, we will no longer print and send home interim progress reports. We encourage all parents/guardians to log in and check the Parent Portal on a weekly basis. Parents have access to current grades, assignments, attendance, and more.
  • Students may not arrive to school in the morning until 7:10 AM. That is when staff members are available to supervise students.
  • Parent Volunteers Needed! Please sign up using our online form. Code word = tms.
  • Click here to learn about CBSD efforts against bullying and for resources helpful to parents on this important subject and more.
  • We need parents, students and staff for our Wellness Committee. If you are interested in helping with a fitness program after school, starting a vegetable garden in our courtyard, or have some other ideas to help our students and staff "go green" and stay fit, please contact Mrs. Mary McDonald, Mrs. Lauren Myrtetus and Ms. Brenda Scheffey about becoming involved in our Wellness Committee.
