Pennsbury Students Raise Money for Manor Elementary Food Pantry
On Saturday, October 8, Pennsbury students ranging from preschool to sixth grade of Quarry Hill Elementary and Pennwood Middle School got together to hold their third annual bake sale for charity. This year, they raised almost $1,000. The students voted to donate all of the money to the Food Pantry at Manor Elementary School because they wanted to help the students in their community. PHS Students Attend Unified Youth Summit
Earlier this week, Pennsbury High School students Christopher Birkenstamm, Allison Hennigan, Lauren Koziak, and Robert Pawlowski along with PHS Unified Sports coaches Jacklyn Ward and Nick Ruggieri attended a Unified Youth Summit at Bucks County Community College hosted by the Special Olympics/Unified Olympics.
The Youth Summit brings together students with and without intellectual disabilities from schools across the region. They learned about leadership and making a difference in their school communities. The day was filled with fun, highly interactive, and energetic activities.
The day is designed for student participants to improve their leadership, communication, and organizational skills through the sessions offered. Students learn to plan activities together to promote inclusion and improve their school.
PHS is home to a Unified Bocce Team and a Unified Track Team. According to the Special Olympics, "Unified Sports combines approximately equal numbers of Special Olympics Athletes and athletes without intellectual disabilities (called Partners) on sports teams for training and competition. Age and ability matching of athletes and partners is defined on a sport-by-sport basis."
William Penn Gifted Students Visit Oxford Valley
Mrs. Martino's and Mrs. Samples' 7th grade gifted students at William Penn Middle School embarked on a two-part community service learning project with the first grade students in Mrs. Ryan's class at Oxford Valley Elementary. The project combines learning with meaningful community service, helps students make interdisciplinary connections, develops community partnerships, and enriches the skills of gathering and synthesizing information, making decisions, clarifying values, problem solving, and social-emotional development. The first visit was a big success as everyone learned from one another, made new connections, and had fun! The 7th grade students will return for one more session in November where they will share a full lesson and activity that they prepare with their 1st grade partners.

Let's Squash the Rumors About Squash!
Yesterday, all students at Fallsington Elementary had the opportunity to taste Creamy Butternut Squash Bisque, prepared by Chef Todd Gurry from The Nutrition Group. The butternut squash was grown in the Fallsington Elementary garden. Students planted two butternut squash plants last spring, and have harvested approximately 50 butternut squash in recent weeks.
One lucky student from each class was randomly selected to receive a butternut squash to take home and enjoy with their family. Chef Todd also provided a nutrition education lesson about butternut squash for the second graders. Click here for the delicious Creamy Butternut Squash Bisque recipe. Thanks to Chef Todd and Mr. Obert-Thorn for partnering to make this opportunity possible.
