K-5 Winter Concerts THIS THURSDAY
On Thursday, December 16th MES will be presenting our K-5 winter concert. This year, due to COVID we will split into a K-2 and 3-5 concert. The K-2 concert will begin at 1:30 pm in the big gym with K-2 students. Doors will open at 1:15pm for K-2 spectator admission. 3-5 grade families will be admitted at 2:00 with a start time of 2:10pm.
Due to crowd restrictions, each student will be given two tickets to the concert. Tickets are going home TODAY!!! A separate email will be sent out to let you know to look for tickets as tickets must be presented at the door to enter the gym. You will not be admitted without tickets, but we will be recording the show. We will need to get spectators in and out in order to keep on schedule, so as soon as K-2 is done performing, those who do not have 3-5 tickets, you will need to exit the building. Once again, we will be recording the concert and posting the video on our social media a couple of hours after the concert. Properly worn masks are required for audience members.
Students should dress appropriately for the concert. Red and green colors are encouraged but not required. They should not wear anything that would cause a distraction (i.e. funny hats, light-up shirts, etc.)
At the conclusion of the entire concert, students will return to their classrooms. It is highly encouraged that students dismiss normally as families will not be permitted to the classroom to sign out their child(ren).
Notes from the Office
This Friday is the end of our 2nd quarter, marking halfway through the year. Report cards for the second quarter will be sent home in January.
Winter parties will be in classrooms for K-5 students this week. Due to COVID, we will NOT have any outside volunteers!
While we are seeing warmer temperatures this week, winter will be here before we know it. As the temperature gets colder, we will still try to be outside as much as possible for recess. Please make sure your child bundles up. Hats and gloves/mittens are recommended with the cold weather. When snow falls, students will need snow pants in order to play in the snow. If your child is in need of a coat, please communicate with the school. We will make sure your child has a winter coat.
If your child has received his/her vaccination, please make sure the school has a copy of the card. We use this information for contact tracing as it changes the process for exclusion and/or test to stay.
Finally, we want to wish everyone at MES a safe and happy holiday season. Have a wonderful Christmas break!

Check Out What's Happening in 2nd Grade!
Mrs. Pierce's class has been using post-it notes to practice story elements from different stories we know! Students also have been using some hands-on modeling while learning about how rocks turn into sand in science and have been enjoying some quiet reading time during Flashlight Friday!
Mrs. Johnson's 2nd grade is studying Earth Science and how water changes the land. They made plateaus out of cornmeal and gently made a rainstorm to change the land and make a canyon.

COVID Updates
In order to keep our students and staff safe, we plan to align our protocols and procedures with the most recent guidance from the Illinois State Board of Education, who developed their guidance with the CDC and IDPH.
At this time, we are now considered 'outbreak status' for positive COVID cases. Outbreaks in schools are defined as:
- 10 % of your student, teachers, or staff population being positive
- 3 or more positive cases within a specific group (epi-linked) (example bus ride, single classroom, sports team)
We have been in contact with the local health department and are currently clear to continue in person learning and activities at this time.
If your child or anyone in the home is experiencing any COVID-like symptoms, please keep your child (and any siblings) home until you speak with our nurse. If any student(s) are in quarantine and would still like lunches and breakfasts, please email Terrie Spicer by 9:30am at tspicer@mes150.org.
Please call the attendance line to report the absence at 815-795-8795.
Symptoms include:
- Fever (100.4°F or higher),
- New onset of moderate to severe headache
- Shortness of breath
- New cough
- Sore throat
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
Please see the information below regarding testing locations for COVID. The document indicates where to test if you are symptomatic, asymptomatic or if you need to test for any other reasons. The document can also be found on the district website. If you are having any issues with testing, please reach out to the office at MES.
