Moldova's Important Holidays
Moldova
Holidays
Moldova, just like many countries around the world, has many holidays that come from outside its country (December 25, a Western Christmas, is a good example). However, Moldova has its own significant holidays that are important for its people. They are: 1) Victory and Commemoration Day; 2) Independence Day; and 3) Limba Noastra (National Language Day).
Victory and Commemoration Day (May 9)
May 9 is celebrated in former Soviet Republics as victory day over Nazi Germany in World War II.

Independence Day (August 27)
Independence Day is the national day of Moldova commemorating the declaration of independence from the Soviet Union on August 27, 1991.

Limba Noastra (August 31)
Limba Noastra literally means "our language", and it commemorates the day that the Moldovan language written in the Latin script became the state language of Moldovan Soviet Socialist Republic in 1989.
