Welcome to the 2020-2021 School Year!
Message from Principal Paige
For those of you who would rather just read the highlights, here goes…
At ACMA we keep our A/B schedule, with classes 1, 3, 5, 7 on Mondays and Thursdays and classes 2, 4, 6, 8 on Tuesdays and Fridays. Wednesdays are for asynchronous learning and connecting with students in non-academic ways.
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday we have a set schedule for classes
8:30-9:40 Period 1 or 2
9:50-11:00 Period 3 or 4
11:00-12:00 Lunch
12:00-1:10 Period 5 or 6
1:20-2:30 Period 7 or 8
Each class session (M/T/Th/F) will include synchronous opportunities (which can be whole group or scheduled small group/individual). Staff will remain available to students for the duration of the session (Zoom, Canvas Message Board, Email, Phone). Direct instruction will be recorded and posted on Canvas.
M/T/Th/F class sessions will include synchronous lessons and will involve both: “Teacher Facilitated Learning” (described as instruction which is structured to develop, deepen, and assess new knowledge and understanding, and is often used when the teacher is planning for all students to have a common experience related to specific learning targets) and “Student Applied learning” which allows for students to apply knowledge and skills that extend from the teacher-facilitated learning.
Comphrensive Distance Learning (CDL) Begins Sept 14th
School Supplies - CDL
At the start of the 2020-2021 school year, all students will be engaged in online learning.
We usually publish suggested list of school supplies for families to purchase. This year’s district-wide list takes into account the needs of at-home learning. We’re calling these supplies our “Student Success Kits.”
Here's a list of suggested supplies:
Student Success Kits for All
- Earbuds, preferably with microphone
- Pens and pencils
- Spiral notebooks or composition books
- Colored markers
- Glue stick
Additional Items for Middle & High School Students
- Black Sharpie
- Highlighter
In conjunction with the Beaverton Education Foundation (BEF) and other community partners, the District is attempting to raise funds to buy supplies for 16,000 Student Success Kits. If successful, these kits will be distributed to students who qualify for free and reduced-price meals during the first week of September. Distribution will occur here at ACMA.
If you'd like to help us reach our goal, please consider donating to the BEF Back-to-School Equip Campaign.
Resources for Families
Clothes Closet: The district-run Clothes Closet will be reopening on August 24 to provide new or gently used clothing to any student who qualifies for free or reduced lunch. Because of COVID-19, we’re moving to an appointment-only scheduling system. Students can sign up online or call 503-356-4322 to schedule an appointment.
Free Food Boxes: Our partner Pacific Coast Fruit Company will continue to distribute food boxes at Aloha High School on Wednesdays from 12 p.m. - 1 p.m. The company has two additional distribution locations within our district: St. Cecilia Church (Tuesdays at 2 p.m.) and Beaverton Foursquare Church (Thursdays at 9 a.m.). In addition, our community partner Urban Gleaners will continue to distribute food boxes at Vose Elementary (Mondays at 11 a.m.).
If you’d like to support our efforts to address food and economic insecurities in our community, please consider a donation to the BSD Community Resource Fund.
Free Internet Access: BSD has partnered with Comcast to provide six months of free internet access through the Sponsored Comcast Internet Essentials program to students who qualify for free or reduced lunches. Applications are available online and must be submitted by August 31. Applications are available in Spanish. If families are unable to access the application online, call 503-356-4300.
If you know a high school student who doesn’t qualify for free internet through Comcast, they can apply online or call 503-356-4300 for a free hotspot through our partnership with Sprint’s 1Million Project. If you know an elementary or middle school student who doesn’t qualify for free internet through Comcast, schools will be working with them to distribute additional hotspots during the first week of September.
Can you help support students who need internet connectivity? If so, please consider donating to BEF’s Back-to-School Connect Campaign.
District Goal: WE empower all students to achieve post-high school success.
