On Monday, September 4 (Labor Day) we will be having a tshirt tie-dye party outside the HS Band Room from 5:30p - 6:30p. Students are encouraged to come and tie-dye their own shirt. All supplies will be provided.
We are in need of 3-4 HS students (and even a parent or two) who can help from 5:30 - 6:30p. If you are "crafty," can assist others with their tie-dye process, and you'd like to help out, please let Mr. Root know!
Band Dinner - 9/8 Home Football Game - Parent Help Needed!
We are very happy that we are able to provide dinner for band students on the evenings of home football games. We have a number of students in the band who come right to band from practice after school, so providing a meal for everyone ensures that all students get a solid meal before a long night of performing.
As with anything, we need help, both in terms of financial resources and physical help in order to make the meals work. For each meal, we will be asking for families to sign up to
- bring certain food items or ice
- provide money to help offset the cost of food we purchase
- assist with meal setup/serving food
- halftime snack setup/teardown
We will be sending a signup out for each of the 4 home games. If you can help by donating food, money, or your time, please click the link below to sign up for this Friday's (9/8) game

- IF YOU ARE DRIVING YOUR CHILD HOME FROM COMERICA PARK
- Meeting Spot - We will ALL be headed to the buses on E Fischer Service Dr - 2 blocks north of the stadium. Please note that parents WILL NOT be able to take their child from the park directly. This is very important - we need to make sure that everyone is accounted for and inside the ballpark is not a good place to do that.
- Chaperones Needed!!! - We will need 10 parent chaperones to help us make sure that all students are safe and accounted for during the game. If you will be at the game and are willing to help us out as a chaperone, please let us know in the Google Form (linked above)

- Your child should plan to bring money for food/drink for dinner and any souvenirs while at the park.
- Comerica Park is a CASHLESS venue, which means that they ONLY accept credit/debit card or tap-to-pay with phones. There are a few kiosks at the park where students can exchange cash for a prepaid debit card
- Questions/Concerns - As always, if you have questions or concerns, please reach out to Mr. Root directly - email is best!
Disney Trip Information - IMPORTANT!!!
Chaperones Still Needed!
We are still in need of 3-4 adult chaperones who can come on the trip with us. This is important in terms of keeping the number of students in each group manageable and making sure that we have enough supervision.
The deadline to register for the trip is Friday, September 8. If you would like more information or would like to come along, please let me know.
Recommendation to STOP Trip Auto-Pay
If you are currently utilizing autopay through Bob Rodgers for your child's Disney Trip and anticipate receiving fundraising money or scholarships, we encourage you to STOP the autopay at this point.
Bob Rodgers will NOT refund money to families until AFTER the trip is done and the TOTAL trip is paid for fully. This is part of the contract that you signed. As such, it is important that you NOT overpay.
MHS will be sending a check with all fundraising and MHS-provided scholarship money to Bob Rodgers at the end of September.
Trip Deadline - Urgent!
There are a number of students who are signed up to go on the Disney trip who are significantly behind on payments. While I will be reaching out to those families privately, please be aware of the following important items regarding payments:
- Please remember that by signing up your child for the trip, you entered into a contractual agreement with Bob Rogers Travel. If you signed your child up for the trip but will not be able to meet your financial obligations, PLEASE contact BRT to remove your child from the trip roster.
- Bob Rogers Travel is ordering park tickets for trip participants on September 15 - anyone who has not paid that amount by September 15 will be dropped from the trip automatically
- Financial assistance IS available - BUT - you MUST contact Mr. Root ASAP!!! We can only assist with approximately 25% of the total cost
- Financial assistance for this trip comes at the END - AFTER you have paid BRT your portion
- Students will NOT be allowed to travel if there is an amount owed - ALL trips must be paid IN FULL by the payment deadline for your child to travel

Scholarships Available Through Marshall High School
We are pleased to be able to offer 10 merit-based and 10 need-based scholarships to MHS Band and Orchestra students who are going on the Disney trip. Submissions for each scholarship must be made by Tuesday, September 5 and winners will be notified by Friday, September 8.
Scholarship awards will be mailed directly to Bob Rogers Travel by October 1 and will be credited directly to the accounts of the students who were awarded scholarships.

Concessions Fundraiser - Need student AND parent help!
The MHS Band will be providing concessions at one Varsity football game and one Freshman/JV game. We need 12-15 helpers for each event. The dates are:
- Friday, September 29 - Varsity Football - MHS Band members will be performing and CANNOT work this event - need LOTS of parents for this one
- Thursday, October 19 - Freshman/JV Football
If you'd like to help out, please click on the link below and add your name and email to the Google Spreadsheet. This is a GREAT fundraiser for the band and is pretty fun to work at. Younger helpers are fine as long as a parent is working as well to help supervise.
