Skyline Promotional Video Postponed 2/28
Per district...
Good afternoon Principals,
I want to first apologize for all the confusion with scheduling this event. We are in high demand with regards to serving our district and received some projects from our superintendent and chief’s cabinet that required our services. All that to say, we are postponing the Skyline Feeder Pattern shoot for Tuesday, Feb. 28 in order to give us time to resolve these projects and give our full attention to using your time and our presence in your buildings most efficiently.
Again, my sincerest apologies for the repeated adjustment but we will assure efficient use of your time on the 28th.

Operation Excellence: TG2 Spotlight
Spotlight on Mrs. Linwood, Operation Excellence: Team & Grit
Mrs. Linwood has embraced being a Ranger and adds value to everything she does. She has been given responsibilities which she assumes with professionalism and a true collaborative spirit. In being new to the systems and processes she has a growth mindset and strengthens the system through her deliberate actions. She has demonstrated by her words and actions that she is committed to others growth while always keeping the focus on our main goal, to support of our students educational and social success.
Spotlight on Mrs. Tovar & Mrs. Chio, Operation Excellence: Team
Super KUDDO’S to Ms. Chio & Ms. Tovar, we are appreciative of you both for the positive leadership. They have displayed a willingness to assist in data corrections of grading & attendance reports. You ladies have always granted pleasant sustenance, even taking time to step in our classroom last semester for the Presidential Mock Election Project. Thanks for going the extra mile in your duties to assist, & support all the while with a smile!
Spotlight on ARMS Momentous Institute Teacher Team (Pilot Initiative)
Since the Fall of 2016 the teachers above have committed to our partnership with Momentous Institute. Momentous Institute (MI) is an organization that is committed to social emotional health of young people and their families. I am truly thankful for the diligence, reflection, and growth mindset our teachers. They are embedding one of two strategies (Brain Breaks or Breathing Techniques) within their classes on a weekly basis to support our students ability to self regulate and focus. Teachers are tracking the impact data on their classes and this is informing the overall conversation and work with MI.
We are in our infancy stage of normalizing these practices in ourselves and our students. The benefit to our organization and the growth that we will see come to our students and adults is being informed by what is currently happening at ARMS.
Thank you for helping to inform how we strengthen fostering the social/emotional development of our middle school age children.

Contemplative Listening
In this Chronicle of Higher Education article, John Cavanaugh (Consortium of Universities of the Washington Metropolitan Area) bemoans the fact that few adults are good listeners. He’s noticed that people pay attention to how the other person’s words affect them, “waiting for their turn to talk, and planning what they will say rather than actually paying attention to, that is, listening contemplatively to, the speaker.” Real listening, says Cavanaugh, “reflects openness to new ideas or points of view, based on what the other person is saying. Contemplative listening forces us to be present… [It involves] an ability to separate one’s personal needs and interests from those being expressed by the speaker, a mind open to new or different possibilities, an interpersonal trust… When done well, it may involve significant amounts of silence. All of this takes patience, practice, and courage. It is not the stuff of instant reaction on social media.”
At what age can a person do this kind of listening? Cavanaugh says neuroscience points to early adulthood, when emotion and logic begin to integrate and people are better able to reason and get outside themselves – or at least have that potential.
“The problem,” he continues, “is that we do not help people learn how to listen. It is a fundamental, perhaps fatal flaw in the learning outcomes that we have long argued underlie the educated person… That must end: The including of contemplative, or deep, listening as a core skill is indeed essential… To be considered as a great listener is one of the highest compliments a person can receive.”
