Welcome Back Bulldogs!
Westside Family Resources and Counseling Curriculum
Dear Rockbrook Families,
HELLO and WELCOME to the 20-21 School Year!
My name is Lisa Davis, and I am the school psychologist at Rockbrook Elementary. This is my 16th year as a school psychologist and second year with Westside Community Schools. I serve a dual role position, which means I provide both psychological and counseling based services for Rockbrook students. My goal is to help all children succeed in their academic, behavior, and social-emotional development. I provide system level supports for Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), which are processes that guide decisions we make about supports our students may need. I am a resource for both general education and special education. I also provide whole group class counseling lessons, small group interventions and work individually with students. Please reach out! I am here to help.
In this newsletter, you will find information about family resources and the class counseling curriculum. I am looking forward to the new school year! I hope you are too. April Anderson is our District Social Worker. We are both available to assist with resources that may be of interest.
Please reach out with any questions, concerns or needs that your student or family may have.

The Backpack Food Program
The Omaha Food Bank along with Woodhouse offers The Backpack Program to students at our school.
The Backpack Program is designed to provide food for children at times when other resources are not available, such as on weekends and vacations from school. All of the food is child friendly (no preparation needed) and shelf stable. The food is delivered to the school for children to bring home in a bag on Fridays to have for the weekend. In the event that there is no school on a Friday, the food bags go home on the last day of the school week. This program runs throughout the school year. '
If you are interested in participating, please contact Mrs. Davis so your child can be delivered a bag each week.
Operation School Bell - Postponed
Operation School Bell is a shopping opportunity. Families who participate are provided with a voucher and can shop and choose clothing for their children on an assigned date/time. Every school is given a set number of open spaces. Even though the event is postponed, please reach out if you would like to participate.
Due to current circumstances, Operation School Bell (OSB) is being rescheduled from October 2020 to January 2021. Dates will be determined based on revised school district calendars.
Shopping shifts will be spread out over four weeks instead of two. Please contact Mrs. Davis if you are interested.

Second Step Bully Prevention Units
This year, I am excited to announce that all Westside Community School elementary buildings will implement the Second Step Bulling Prevention Units. These lessons build on the skills taught by classroom teachers with the Second Step Social Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum.
Home Links - Designed to resemble the Second Step core program Home Links, the Bullying Prevention Unit Home Links give students a chance to practice skills outside of the classroom and help families learn about the skills and concepts and begin to use them at home. Home Links can also be useful for checking students’ understanding and acquisition of the skills as they practice them in a non-school setting. Home links will be shared as we progress through the curriculum.
