Crisis Drill - Monday
During your class meeting or at a time that is convenient for you on Monday, please discuss the crisis drill for this week:
Our safety drill for this week is to review one option of our ALICE procedure. Who remembers what E stands for? Evacuate is correct. What does evacuate mean? What are some ways we might evacuate or leave this space? Let students share their thoughts first. Possible responses and things to reinforce with students are:
*Doors
*Windows – This is a good time to explain that we might ask you do something that we wouldn’t normally do like break a window. Remember it is always important to be ready to listen carefully and do what I say even if it’s not something we would normally do.
If you want to show the video before or after you go over this, you can click on the following: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDWYx7k2Ssg&feature=youtu.be
The video is optional, but might give your students a chance to review ALICE.
Please let me know if you have any questions in regards to this.
Please note that it is an expectation that this is discussed on Monday. Thank you!

Mental Health Summer Sessions
Are you interested in free mental health therapy sessions this summer? Olathe is partnering with Friends University and offering sessions to students, staff, and families starting May 28th and going through July 25th. See the attachment for more information and the link to request an appointment. They fill up fast so don't wait too long.

Please have these turned in by May 3rd!
The PTO would love to assist your grade level in purchasing items that your students could benefit from. The final meetings for the school year are coming up, so if you are in need...please fill out a form and give to me.

A Favor to our Specialists
Reminder!
As a professional courtesy to our wonderful specialists, please share with them if someone is having a difficult time that day so that they can keep a close eye on them and help the child enjoy their experience that day in the specials class.
Tech Update
Reminder!
Tech will be adding Microsoft Wireless adapters to Manchester Park for our projectors.
This will occur during the week of March 11th (Spring Break). Please see the attachment on how to mirror what is on your surface pro to the projector...once it is installed!
Interventions on Synergy
Reminder!
Please make sure that you are putting this on synergy when you begin and then update this when you complete it. This should be done for any behavior or academic interventions.
Visitor Check In
Reminder!
If you can do us a big favor:
If you have a person coming in to help in your classroom (senior serving schools, grandparent, mystery reader, speaker, etc,) that is not a parent at our school, please email or let Cristy, Lesley, and Andrea know.
If we don't know that they are coming, we end up having to stop them at the door and not let them in until we confirm with you...which ends up making our visitors a little testy...so if you can give us a heads up, it will go much smoother. Thanks!
Afternoon Dismissal Duty if you are Absent
Reminder!
If you have a dismissal duty:
- If you are absent (and it is something that you have planned or know in advance), please try and contact a floater or someone on your grade level to see if they can cover your duty. I am not comfortable with substitutes doing these duties because they do not know the kids, our routines, and our procedures. I understand that there are certain substitutes that are our regulars. If these people are your substitute, please feel free to use them for these roles. Thank you!
