Safety Reminder for Visitors
We have important safety protocol that our office staff follows when visitors enter our building. This includes vetting those that enter the building. While we understand that this is a KIND gesture, when visitors open the door or hold the door for others entering the building; this does not allow HCE staff to follow through with the safety protocol that we have in place.
Thank you for your cooperation on this matter!
HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY
ART WORK HONORED for 2 HCE STUDENTS
Congratulations to 2 Hillcrest students for being honored through the Art Department at Thursday's School Board Meeting. Jordyn Schwartz' (former HCE student) artwork is featured in the Gallery at the Rock display, and Kayla Metz' (4th grader) artwork is hanging in the Chancellor Center.

Big news in the library!
We have two upcoming events that will be tons of fun for our students!
First, the Scholastic Book Fair will be here March 20th to 24th with favorites from the series I Survived, Babysitter’s Club, Dog Man & Cat Kid and much more! Students will attend the fair during their regularly scheduled library time, and a Family Shopping Night will be held on Tuesday March 21st from 4:30 pm to 7pm.
Online shopping will be active beginning March 20th. As always, when sending money for shopping, please take TAX into consideration. If a book costs $9.99 and the shopper has $10, they will be unable to make their purchase because they will not have enough money for the cost of the book plus tax.
If desired, you have the option to set up an e-wallet for cash-free shopping for your student; set-up of e-wallets is available as of February 27th and goes until March 24th and can be found at our book fair homepage.
Secondly, we are hosting author Jonathan Stutzman and illustrator Heather Fox on Monday April 3rd, and they will present to grades K-4. This husband/wife team has published some picture books that Hillcrest students have grown to love this year, including “Llama Unleashes the Alpaca-lypse” and “Don’t Feed the Coos.” They will also be doing a book signing for our readers, and order forms went home last week. Order forms are due by March 8th and checks should be made payable to the Newtown Bookshop.
Music Update
As many of you know, Mrs. Bishop and her husband are expecting a baby girl any day. Her last day @ HCE was yesterday. She will be out for the rest of the school year. Wishing Mrs. Bishop and baby all the best!
Please join me in welcoming Miss Michelle Schuman to the music team. Miss Schuman worked in a variety of music positions in nearby school districts prior to coming to Hillcrest as our building sub. During her time as building sub, Miss Schuman has gotten to know our students and staff very well. She's also had many opportunities to work with Mrs. Bishop. Michelle is excited about this opportunity and getting to work with our wonderful students.
Welcome Dalton Johnson- Student Teacher

Hillcrest Is ROARING about “PAWS”ITIVE BEHAVIOR

The following children earned ROAR tickets for their exemplary work related to following our ROAR Rules. Congratulations!

ATTENTION WALKERS- AM ARRIVAL
As a reminder, adult supervision does not begin at Hillcrest until 8:50AM. To that point, we are requesting that walkers arrive closer to 9AM. This will allow walkers to enter the building upon arrival, rather than waiting outside the school when arriving before 8:50AM.
ATTENTION CARRIDERS-AM ARRIVAL
As a reminder, supervision does not begin until 8:50AM. To that point we are requesting that all students remain in their cars until you see the adult on duty exit the building at 8:50AM.
Please do not drop off students in front of the building when there is no adult supervision present. This is a major safety issue because there is a continuous movement of vehicles in front the building during this time. Even a few minutes early can be detrimental during this busy time.
