We're Off and Soaring
Back in Action
What a phenomenal week to start the 2022-2023 School Year! Our days now start with the entire school coming together in the arbor to eat a healthy breakfast. The meals end with our call-and-response cheer: "Small School" ... "BIG FAMILY!" This week, students collaborated in their classes to co-create school-wide behavior expectations. Their thoughts will all be compiled into a single set of ideals which will be presented next week at an assembly. It's their school and they have the best ideas of how to ensure everyone feels happy and safe every day.
This week our staff gathered on Wednesday to engage in an After Action Report protocol in which we worked through the challenges and celebrated the highlights of our first few days of school. An After Action Report protocol takes participants through four main questions: What was expected to happen? What actually happened? What went wrong? What worked well, and why? We then collaborated on solutions to improve the day to day operations on campus.
Next week, we are thrilled to welcome families back on campus for Back to School Night on Thursday, September 8th, from 5-6PM. Please see the flyer below. The evening kicks off with an address from Principal, Jeff Friedenberg, in the auditorium. From there, families will have the opportunity to visit their student's classroom and learn more about what they have to look forward to in the coming year.
See you then!

School Site Council Wants YOU
Want to be more involved in making important decisions at your student's school? Our School Site Council has two open seats this year. School Site Council plays a critical role in making financial and safety decisions that impact our students' educational experience. Elections will be held on on Monday & Tuesday, September 12th & 13th. The first meeting will be held on September 14th at 1:00PM on campus. Please notify Principal, Jeff Friedenberg at jfriedenberg@sandi.net if you're interested.
Sign Up for Weekly COVID Testing on Campus
Weekly voluntary COVID screenings resumed this week and will continue to take place weekly on Monday mornings. The more students we have signed up for the screenings, the sooner we can identify symptomatic and asymptomatic cases to reduce community spread.
An additional bonus to signing up for the screenings is it allows for the health office to test if student is showing symptoms at school, rather than being required to send them home. If a student tests negative, they may return to class.
If you signed up last year, you must sign up again.
Sign up link: https://my.primary.health/l/sdusd_2022
Without being signed up for weekly testing, if a student shows any symptoms commonly associated with COVID, a family member must either take the student home or administer a rapid test and wait the 15 minutes for conclusive results.
Hot Weather Operations
Student safety is always our number one priority. We actively monitor weather conditions in an effort to find a safe balance between outdoor recreation time while minimizing risk to student safety. The majority of the upcoming heat wave will be experienced Saturday-Monday when school is not in session.
