Principal's Message
Hello Grizzlies,
February is Black History Month. It is an important time for all of us to take a step back and reflect on the important contributions that Black Americans have made to our culture, economy, democracy and society. Our Leadership class, Black Student Union and our Equity, Diversity and Equity committee are planning a number of different activities that we will share with students soon. I believe it is important to have student voice centered as we reflect on how history informs the present moment and shapes the unique experiences of each student.
I also want to share a wonderful interactive resource that is a great place to explore important events and people in the history of Black Americans. It is an interactive, visual timeline from Blackpast.org that is a good entry point for exploring Black history in the United States: https://www.blackpast.org/aah-timeline/. Please also explore the other resources listed below. While it is wonderful to take this month to center the contributions and history of African Americans, we want to make sure to keep the learning, and conversations going all year long.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Benjamin Bell

TCB Update
Suggest a new name for the John Muir Outdoor School
There is still time to suggest a new name for JMOS for the renaming committee to consider.
We are excited to choose a new name that will inspire our students to be the change they want for the world through integrity, dedication, and the knowledge that we all can contribute to the betterment of our society through our diverse talents and perspectives. The new name should support the values of the ASD community and the school.
We invite all ASD students, staff, and community members to suggest a new name for JMOS by clicking on this link.
The call for name suggestions will be open until 5 pm on February 15th, 2022.

AHS counseling staff will present information on college pathways, specifically geared toward junior and senior students and their families. Topics covered will include a general overview of the process of applying to both community colleges and four-year universities, ACT/SAT testing, and how to access financial aid/scholarships.
Recording of Financial Aid 101 9/29/2021: Learn about the pathways to access financial aid and scholarships! We will discuss the process for completing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), an online application which qualifies students to receive the Federal Pell Grant, the Oregon Opportunity Grant, the Oregon Promise, and government loans. Even if you think your family will not qualify for federal financial aid, it is important to complete the FAFSA. Many colleges will not give students merit aid unless they have a FAFSA on record. We will also briefly cover the CSS Profile, a separate online application many private schools use to determine institutional financial aid.
