Message From Our Principal
Sailor Families,
Thank you for your continued partnership! Things are continuing to go very well at Bay Harbor and I am humbled and impressed with the leadership growth taking place by all students and classrooms. For our learners to continue to grow, there is ownership in their learning that they need to take responsibility for. Each student brings strengths and passions to the learning process. The more they understand their strengths and set goals in their areas of growth, the stronger they will be. At Bay Harbor, this is the journey we are on- TOGETHER!
School Safety
As noted in our last newsletter, all HSSD schools are required to do an all-school evacuation drill. Ours will take place on Tuesday at 9am. Teachers will walk students to the predetermined Rally Point, take attendance, and then will return to school promptly. Our school resource officers along with the local fire department will assist with this drill. By Tuesday morning, I will have spoken to all of the classrooms about school safety and will have reviewed this drill. Though a sensitive subject, our goal is to do all of this at a developmentally appropriate level and I have no doubt we will do that. Below is some more information about school safety (ALICE) and what we talk about:
ALICE stands for:
Alert: Get the word out, using clear concise language
Lockdown: Will include locking the door but also barricading so as to deny entry.
Inform: Continue to communicate via the PA system or other means. Give real time detailed information during the crisis.
Counter: Apply skills of movement, noise, distance and distraction to confuse someone (if they are close to you).
Evacuate: Get out of the building as quickly as possible and go to our Rally Point.
The steps of ALICE are not necessarily linear. The most important thing we will teach our students is to make choices based on the situation which includes evacuating and going to our Rally Point. Our Rally Point is located off-grounds. The purpose of the drill is to familiarize our students with ALICE language, EMPOWER them to make safe choices and practice Rally Point routes (teachers will walk the students to and from this location as part of the drill).
Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences
As a reminder, conferences are the evenings of October 25 and 27th. Thank you for your survey feedback. More information about conferences and sign-ups will be coming very soon. For planning purposes, plan that there will be an option for either an in-person conference or virtual. Students are very much invited and encouraged to be a part of this process.
Golden Apple Nominations
Please take a moment to nominate a past or present teacher that you think deserves some extra recognition. Each year, the Greater Green Bay Chamber of Commerce puts on the Golden Apple Awards, to put a positive focus on educators and education as a whole. Beyond the award itself, is the good feeling teachers have when they see their names in the newspaper as being nominated for the award. Please work with your child to nominate a BH educator today. Nominations are accepted until October 28. Thank you in advance.

WANT TO BE A VOLUNTEER AT SCHOOL?
HOW TO BECOME APPROVED TO VOLUNTEER AT SCHOOL
Anyone who wants to volunteer in the Howard Suamico School District must first complete a background check through the district to get approved to volunteer. This includes, but is not limited to, chaperoning on a field trip, helping in the classroom, or helping at one of the PTO Family Fun or other school events.
Please keep in mind that background checks can take as long as three to four weeks to process. Therefore, it is recommended that you complete this process as soon as possible to make sure that you would be approved in time for anything that would come up during the year that you would be interested in volunteering for.
Click HERE for instructions on how to create a Volunteer Profile and to begin the background check process.
Please call the Bay Harbor office at 920-662-8800 if you have any questions.

FALL FEST INFO BELOW....
This year we will be having our annual Fall Fest fundraiser on November 12th from 11am-3pm.
Some of you may wonder, what is Fall Fest?
Well, we pride ourselves on being a school that doesn't do fundraisers year round. We have one big one, on one day, and that's it! It's also a really fun way to come and meet with other families in the school.
What can you expect?
We will have games, food, face painting, raffles (for both kids and adults) as well as a silent auction.
You will be seeing a lot of different information coming out in the next few weeks so we wanted to try and prepare you for what is to come.
- Classroom Baskets: you should be hearing from your students' teachers on what their theme/basket is this year: Each classroom has their own silent auction basket which the kids love participating in!
- Volunteers: We are always in need of help to run this event as well as help to set up/take down and food/supplies.
- Donations: This can be anything from something you want to make (t-shirts, quilts, etc) to reaching out to companies you think may donate. And everything in between! The only reminder is that all items must be brand new.
Please feel free to reach out to us with any questions or ideas. We are so excited to get started in planning this amazing event!

~GIVING TREE LETTER~
The Giving Tree will be starting to register families for our December Holiday Store. Please reach out to your school social worker if you think your student may benefit from assistance with The Giving Tree. For our generous community, look for information in future district communications about donating to our Holiday Store and volunteering!
This month The Giving Tree is collecting canned tuna and canned chicken. Please feel free to send donations with your students to put in the collections bins/carts near the main office of school or families can also drop donations off during school hours. The Giving Tree appreciates the community support in helping ensure food is not a barrier to a student’s education.

School Board Article - September 2022
From the School Board
September, 2022
Budget Hearing and Annual Meeting
This year the Howard-Suamico Board of Education will hold its public Budget Hearing
and Annual Meeting on September 26, 6:00 p.m. in the Student Union, Bay Port High School,
2710 Lineville Road, Suamico. In addition, the Superintendent will present a State of the
District address.
We have been asked on occasion about the purpose of these meetings which are also
referred to as Meetings of the Electors. State Law requires school districts across Wisconsin to hold a Budget Hearing and Annual Meeting each year. There are legal requirements
surrounding these events, but school officials have long recognized this event as an opportunity for the community and the school district to connect, to communicate, and to reach greater understanding. School administrators and board members provide focus on achievements needs and the future of the district. Community members are presented with information about the operations of the school district, are able to ask questions, and will then vote on various motions.
On behalf of the Howard-Suamico School District, the Board of Education invites
attendance and participation from district residents. Please consider joining us on Monday,
September 26. Copies of the budget book will be available on the District website and in the
School District Office, 2706 Lineville Road, Green Bay, beginning September 16, 2022, and will
be available at the meeting on September 26.
