BIKE, WALK, and ROLL to School Day May 4th

Lincoln Elementary School is teaming up with Safe Kids Fargo-Moorhead on May 4th, 2022 for Walk, Bike, and Roll to School Day! This day is about creating a community that is more active and safer by encouraging safe travel to school – whether it be walking, biking, or rolling to school!

On the morning of May 4th, Safe Kids will be welcoming students into the school with a table stationed on each side of the school. There will be one table stationed in front for caregiver drop off, bikers, and walkers. We will also have a station on the other side of the building for those who ride the bus. Student will have the opportunity to decorate the school bike racks on the way into school.

Throughout the morning, we will gather in the gym by grades to go over education on pedestrian and wheeled sports safety, including discussing the University crosswalk. Before leaving the gym, students will also be provided the opportunity to sign a banner to serve as a pledge to walk, bike, and roll to school safely!

To read more about Bike, Walk, and Roll to School Day, please visit https://www.walkbiketoschool.org/.

Drop off Lane before and after school

Please make sure to only drive NORTH at drop off and pick up times in front of the school. Double parking or driving south puts kids at risk of walking/running in front of cars. The pick up lines do clear out quickly and kids can wait in the doorways until cars drive up at the end of the day so they can avoid getting cold outside. Please remember we do not have supervision outside in the morning at drop off.

Thank you for your help!

Start of the Day Reminder - Doors Open at 7:57 am

Hello Families,

As the temperatures outside are starting to feel like spring- just a reminder that the school doors do not open until 7:57 am. We do not have supervision outside in the front of the school. That is when we have supervision and the students are able to come into the building to get ready for the day.

Thank you for your help in keeping students warm in your cars as they wait for the first bell.

Accessing E-Books

The Fargo Public Schools (FPS) library and technology team would like to remind students, staff, and families of the wide variety of reading options offered by accessing our district e-book collection through Sora. We have a number of great opportunities and resources to encourage our students and staff to keep reading over the winter break!

Sora can be accessed on all student PLDs and on just about any other electronic device using the Sora app. Even older devices such as outdated phones that you may no longer use as a phone could still be used as a reading device with the Sora app. If you have a Fargo Public Library card, you can also access the public library e-book collection through your Sora account. If you have never accessed Sora before, check out these directions for how to access your school account!

4th Grade Parents- Orchestra

In 5th grade, special musical opportunities will be available for students that can change the course of their lives long term if they wish! ORCHESTRA is offered starting in 5th grade. Fargo Public Schools are very fortunate that members of this community strongly support the string program; involvement in orchestra continues to flourish in this area.

In orchestra, students will learn how to play one of the following instruments: violin, viola, cello, or bass. Orchestra students will have their smaller class orchestra during the school day and a large ensemble group before school one consistent day of the week. Orchestra students will have several performances throughout the school year. This is a year-long course and is a multi-year activity that students can continue through high school and beyond.

Registration Information

Here is what you will need to do for your child to begin orchestra in the fall of 2022:

Fargo South High School Activities Briefing

Fargo South Activities Briefing

Welcome to the sixth Fargo South Activities Briefing! This has been included in your newsletter to provide information on the value of kids participating in activities, the events happening at South High, and information on the great things that our South students are doing.

Did you know . . .

Activity participation is positively linked to better cognitive functioning in children (attention and working memory) (Bailey, 2006; Castelli, Hillman, Buck & Erwin, 2007; Sibley & Etnier, 2003), grades, test scores, school engagement, and education aspirations (Eccles & Barber, 1999; Marsh & Kleitman, 2002), reduced school dropout (Mahoney & Cairns, 1997), and a higher likelihood of college attendance (Barber, Eccles, & Stone, 2001).

Fargo South sponsors 24 varsity sports and over 30 groups, co-curricular activities, and co-curricular clubs. You can find the full list of opportunities at https://www.fargo.k12.nd.us/domain/138.

Lincoln Title 1

TITLE 1: What you need to know:

As a Title I school, Lincoln Elementary receives federal funds for Title I programs that are part of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). As a recipient of these funds, Lincoln Elementary has committed itself to providing enriching learning activities for its stakeholders and sharing responsibility with both parents and students to improve academic achievement, as outlined in the School-Parent Compact. Additionally, Lincoln Elementary is required to notify parents of particular components outlined in the law. Through the Interactive Dashboard, parents are able to be notified regarding the performance measures outlined in the state’s accountability system. The Parents Right to Know document is also a valuable resource as it lays out what information parents have the right to request and ascertain from the school regarding topics like the professional qualifications of staff, state and local policy, and parental rights regarding student participation in mandated assessments. Additionally, the District School Parent and Family Engagement Policy outlines what actions FPS and the school will be taking to provide effective parent and family engagement activities to improve student achievement and school performance. Copies of each of these documents can be found below, and you are encouraged to read through them.
