The Siegrist Star
Week of September 11, 2023
Hello Siegrist Family,
Although the Chiefs didn't win last night, we still love them and are excited to cheer for a Pirate Victory this evening against the Northtown Hornets.
This morning we celebrated the end of a great week with a High Five Friday from our Got Character Pirates from PCHS. A positive way to start our student's morning off right. After the high school students finished greeting students outside, they talked with a few classes about their character trait and what it means to them during the classroom morning meetings.
Today 4th and 5th grade students, who were at Siegrist last year and took the MAP tests, will be bringing their MAP results home today in their backpacks.
Thank you again for your partnership and support. As a reminder students are not in session on Monday. We look forward to welcoming our Siegrist Leaders back to school on Tuesday, September 12th.
All the best,
Mrs. Johna-Kaye Sutton
We love our Chiefs!!!

Professional Learning Days (PLD)
On Monday, September 11, school will not be in session for our first Professional Learning Community (PLC) day of the 2023-24 school year. **NOTE - we have moved from early release PLC days to full PLC days starting with the 2023-24 school year.
PLC days are designed to establish sustained and uninterrupted time for teachers to work together and collaborate to improve student learning and achievement. This time allows educators to examine and respond to the four basic fundamental questions of a Professional Learning Community:
- What is it we want students to learn?
- How will we know when each student has achieved the learning?
- How will we respond when a student is not learning?
- How will we respond when we know a child has mastered the learning?
For more information on PCR-3's Professional Learning Community, visit the PLC page on the district's website.
Platte County Education Foundation Fundraiser, September 6-19
This week, we kicked off our Platte County Education Foundation discount card sales program. Our schools, in conjunction with Major Saver, work with businesses throughout our District to offer a $15 discount card providing customers with 18 local buy-one-get-one-free or discount offers. In most cases, redeeming only two offers offsets the cost of the card. Proceeds from the card campaign directly benefit your student's school and the Platte County Education Foundation. The Foundation gives back to the Platte County R-3 community by awarding annual pre-K through 12th-grade classroom and building site grants, as well as senior scholarships. Your student should have brought home an envelope with information and instructions this week, and was instructed to not go "door-to-door," but to offer to relatives, friends, co-workers, etc. Collection dates start on Tuesday, September 12, and the program wraps up on Tuesday, September 19. Please consider purchasing a card and supporting our schools! You can also purchase cards online here.
DOT DAY CELEBRATION
On Friday, Sept. 15, Siegrist will be celebrating Dot Day. This special day is based on a book written by Peter H. Reynolds titled The Dot. His purpose for writing this book was to remind readers that creativity lies within each of us. This power allows us to enrich ourselves and everyone around us.
On Friday, Sept. 15, students are invited to wear clothing with dots on it. Your child can get creative, but anything with dots is just fine!
PCR-3 Community Advisory: Apply by September 25
Platte County School District recognizes the importance of community input to help set the future direction of our schools. We will be kicking off another year of the PCR-3 Community Advisory by gathering volunteers who will have an ongoing role to review the District’s progress toward its Comprehensive Strategic Improvement Plan goals, as well as to provide input regarding the District's general operation and specific issues impacting education activities and programs. Any District resident, employee, or student may participate in the ongoing work of this group.
We have reached out to existing members about continuing their participation and are now opening membership up to new members. If interested in serving on this advisory, please complete the application linked here by September 25. The first General Membership meeting will be held October 3.

Parent Communication via Siegrist Star Parent Communication - Monthly
Welcome to a new school year! We are so happy to have you at Siegrist. This year both Mrs. Burrows and Dr. Mann are at Siegrist full time! The comprehensive counseling program has many roles and responsibilities, thus we are sharing roles and responsibilities to meet all 605 student needs! (CLICK HERE for role division chart). The school counseling annual calendar overview can be viewed HERE. Lastly, our counselor lessons have been embedded into the Siegrist Specials rotation, meaning your child(ren) will receive a counselor lesson for 50 minutes every 6 days. While one counselor is always teaching the other is meeting individual needs, small group needs, system support or responsive services.
Additionally, this will be our 3rd year with an advisory council solely focused on the school counseling program. The advisory meets two times a year, once in the Fall and once in the Spring. The advisory is made up of school administrators, a school board member, parents, teachers, and this year we’d like to invite a few 5th graders to join us for student input.
Need to contact a counselor? The best way to reach us is via email. Please don’t hesitate to contact either of us if you are needing anything. Our contact information is:
Julia Burrows: 816-858-5977, ext. 1407 or burrowsj@platteco.k12.mo.us
Dr. Mann: 816-858-5977, ext. 1406 or mannl@platteco.k12.mo.us
Siegrist School Attendance:
School attendance is very important! Our school attendance goal is: 90% of students in attendance 90% or higher of the time. Each day daily student attendance is posted outside the office door before you enter, take a look the next time you are at school at our daily attendance rate. Siegrist does have an attendance committee that meets monthly to review individual student attendance. It is our goal to work alongside parents to ensure a high attendance rate for every student. Below is a graph of last year’s average student daily attendance:
The 22-23 yearly average student attendance rate was 92.88%. This is a wonderful attendance rate and we hope to keep attendance high. Thank you for making school a priority and partnering with us to ensure your child is at school. If your student will not be here please call the front office at 816-858-5977.
