Acknowledge~Care~Tell
May is Mental Health Awareness Month and your Student Service Support Team wants you to know what you can do if you or a friend are are feeling sad, overwhelmed, or just not yourself. You can “Acknowledge- Care- Tell”
- We acknowledge what we are feeling is real and ok. We can validate our friend’s feeling. What they are feeling is real as well
- We show care and concern about our own feelings by being compassionate with ourselves and we show care and compassion towards our friends by telling them how important they are to us.”
- We then tell a trusted adult and seek help. We especially want to seek out help if feelings are so strong that there are thoughts of hurting ourselves.
SCHOOL PRINCIPALS’ DAY~May 1, 2021
On May 1, remember to take the time to thank the educational leaders of the school on School Principals’ Day.
Throughout the school year, these educators assume the commitment to lead our young people to a prosperous future. They support and guide quality teachers and staff, resulting in productive learning environments for our children. Whether they lead an elementary, middle, or high school, a principal shows leadership skills while being approachable. Many students see their principals as role models.
Principals guide the academic success and set the tone for an entire school. In most settings, they are a visible leader, one the students and teachers see daily.
Teachers rely on principals to ensure the schools provide the necessary equipment and resources. They also rely on principals to counsel and discipline students when needed. A principal represents the school at community events and meets with superintendents and community members, too.
HOW TO OBSERVE #SchoolPrincipalsDay
This day celebrates school principals, both past and present. Organize an event to thank your principal. Bring breakfast, coffee, or just a thank card, letting them know you appreciate all their time and patience with the kids and parents. Give a shout out to a school principal who influenced you during your school career. Break out the yearbook and share a photo and let them know how important they were to you!
While you’re at it, be sure to volunteer at your school. By supporting your school’s extracurricular activities such as band, choir, speech, and athletics, you’re also supporting your principals in their endeavors.
Use #SchoolPrincipalsDay to share on social media.

On May 5, National Silence the Shame Day brings an opportunity to continue the conversation about mental health and wellness and erase the stigma associated with mental illness.
Mental illness, like any other health concern, is diagnosed at different stages. It may have fewer symptoms from time to time and/or impact on our daily functioning. It is also important to know that mental illness is treatable and recovery is possible.
Unlike other areas of our health care, many people don’t have an affordable or accessible routine plan of care for mental health challenges. Individuals who may have access often suffer in silence due to the stigma of being diagnosed.
National Silence the Shame Day offers education and awareness, opening up conversations about mental health, wellness, mental illness, and recovery.
HOW TO OBSERVE #SilenceTheShame
- Attend a mental health fair. They offer information about mental health conditions and how to care for your own mental health and wellness.
- Visit the blog/hashtag at #SilenceTheShame for stories like yours. You’re not alone or the only one dealing with mental health concerns.
- Visit www.silencetheshame.com to learn more and join the movement.
