PCMS WEEKLY UPDATE

December 18, 2015

Today has been a wonderful last day before a much deserved break for both our students and staff. We couldn’t be more #pcmsproud of our students for all the hard work they’ve put in this first semester. We ended the day with an assembly recognizing our Pirates ROCK Students of the Month winners, an Ugly Christmas Sweater contest, and an abbreviated version of our famous Pirate Games.

From all of us here at PCMS, we wish you and your family a safe and very Happy Holiday Season!

Change to Report Card Distribution Date

Report cards for 2nd Quarter/1st Semester will be sent home on Friday, January 8, rather than Monday, January 4 as stated on the District Calendar. This will allow us sufficient time to ensure accurate grade reporting. As always, middle school and high school parents can check the status of their student's Grade Summary via Parent Portal.

Robotics Tournament

Tomorrow, December 19 from 8am - 3pm, PCMS will host their first annual "Nothing but Net" Vex Robotics Tournament. The team will compete against middle and high school students from around the metro area with a robot they've been designing for the past three months. The robot, dubbed "The Vanquisher", is designed to shoot softball sized foam balls into a net 12 feet away while moving in 8 different directions. The team is excited to debut their robot, and would love to see their fellow Pirates support their work!

Note for Current 8th Graders from the Counseling Dept.

As the mid-point of the 2015-16 school year approaches, it is time to start planning for the 2016-17 school year. We would like to invite you to attend Enrollment Night (formerly Parent Night). This year, the purpose of Enrollment Night is to allow you to hear about each core class (Language Arts, Math, Science & Social Studies) from the department's perspective. This is to enable you and your student to make the best decision about course selections for next year.

Enrollment night for current 8th graders (who will be freshmen next year) will be held Monday, January 11 at the Platte County High School in the Wilson Auditorium from 6:30 - 8:30pm. We encourage you to bring your student with you, so you both will receive the information about courses that are offered at Platte County High School. This will assist you and your student in the planning process of course selection for the 2016-17 school year. If you would like more information, please click on this video link (https://www.movenote.com/v/5yf7Yn6zR5sl6) explaining Enrollment Night, or you may contact your student's counselor.
