MESSAGE FROM THE CCS ADMINISTRATION
Dear CCS Families, Caregivers and Charlotte Community,
Last night, a team of passionate experts shared about their role in supporting the social and mental health needs of our students. At CCS, we are always working to wrap our arms around all children to give them the instruction and support necessary to feel successful academically, socially, emotionally and behaviorally. Thank you to Betsy Lloyd, Amy Sayre, Evan Sivo and Gabby Clow for spending the evening with us to describe the layers of systems at work in our school.
Betsy Lloyd works with all students and staff. During the week, Betsy pushes into classes to provide instruction with whole classes or small groups to develop strong pro-social relationships. Betsy does small lunch bunches, hosts snack groups and responds to acute emotional needs of students. Some kids are seen on a short-term basis, depending on what’s going on in their lives (loss in the family, rough patch, etc.). She can connect students, caregivers and families to the community and outside resources.
Amy Sayre is the Student Assistance Program Counselor (SAP). Amy teaches a wellness class to our 5th-8th grade students. A highlight of what students are learning includes the Science of Happiness. Amy is also the Parent-In coordinator for CVSD. That role supports all parents. Most recently, she has led a campaign informing our community about the impact of vaping on adolescents. Resources for the prevention of vaping can be found on the Parent In (Facebook and CVSD Site). Last night, Amy virtually hosted an internet safety workshop for families of our middle school students.
Gabby Clow is a School Services Clinician. Gabby’s caseload is intentionally limited so she can support a diverse amount of needs students and families may experience. Gabby focuses on mental health and emotional wellness, and she provides therapeutic services for students and families. She works with the whole family on a variety of needs - access to food, access to community resources, Howard resources access point, etc.
As the District Behavior System Director, Evan Sivo supports all of the K-8 schools in the district. With a data lens, he assists our CCS team in layering support and education into cohorts where behavior patterns spike. Evan leads with curiosity when he helps teams brainstorm ways to meet the developmental needs of all students.
As a school, we are committed to supporting every child to make progress through the emotional, physical, social and academic stages.
This amazing team also shared a list of resources that they use to grow personally and professionally in ways we work with our youth.

JASON CHIN AUTHOR VISIT
CCS welcomed the author/illustrator Jason Chin on Tuesday! Jason spoke to students about how he became a book author and illustrator - he was inspired by a visiting illustrator to his elementary school when he was a student! He also explained how he uses curiosity and research to ask questions, make connections, and create the works of art that are his picture books, and told amazing stories about his travels around the world. He expressed that a goal of his is to illustrate the characters in his books in such a way that all readers can see themselves in the pages. Huge thanks to our school district for supporting this visit, and for the many helping hands that went into making it happen for our students! Be sure to check out this week's CCS photos to see some highlights from the day.

YOUTH VOICES RISE IN MONTPELIER
Part of CVSD Connecting Youth's work includes creating opportunities for youth empowerment and advocacy. This past week, 25 WCS and HCS students gathered in Montpelier in support of S.18 - Vermont's bill to ban flavored tobacco products. Our students bravely shared their stories on the capitol steps, spoke to legislators caucusing on the floor, and generally had an unmissable presence in the State House all morning.
These advocates didn't just stand up, they spoke up, inspiring all with their passion and conviction. Connecting Youth is proud to amplify their voices, and we encourage you to join them in advocating for a healthier future!
