The Pirate Way

Hello Pirates!

Welcome to November! The chill is in the air and we even have had some rain to mark the change in the season. At this point we have only 9 school days until our November break and only 24 school days until the end of the 1st semester. I promise you that these days will fly by and the semester will be over! Please make sure that you capitalize on every moment of every day to improve your success at OHS.

I want to thank all of our students at OHS for their continued hard work, but also their continued demonstration of the Pirate Core Values. We have seen a great presence of our Pirate Student Body represent themselves with class and integrity on campus, at our pep rallies, and at our games and events after school. Oceanside High School is a representation of our Oceanside community, history and traditions. I am proud everyday to walk on this beautiful campus and see our amazing students, but I am even more proud when I get to witness our students making the right choices and being an exemplar of class, pride, integrity and excellence. Thank you, Pirates!

Make sure to mark these important dates on your calendars.

Only when we all work together can we truly transform and increase the success of all of our OHS students!

Do you know you are a member of over 100 years of tradition? Join the OHS Foundation

The nonprofit Oceanside High School Foundation was originally founded in 1986. Left inactive after the Oceanside High School 90th reunion, this vital organization was re-established in 2005 to organize the school’s centennial celebration. Today, the Oceanside High School Foundation continues to serve the students, staff and alumni of OHS. Working on behalf of Oceanside High School, the Foundation helps provide funds for student programs, scholarships, faculty grant awards, campus improvement projects, the annual All-Class Reunion, Hall of Fame and other activities helping to lessen the disparity between student’s needs and state/district funding. We also serve as a liaison and database for alumni and their respective classes.

Cold & Flu Season

Cold and flu season is upon us. Health officials are warning there may be high levels of influenza compared to the past two years, when COVID-19 precautions helped keep flu infections low. As a reminder, please do not send your child to school if they are feeling sick or experiencing symptoms of a virus. Keeping your sick child home will be a great benefit for the health and wellness of our students and staff.

The flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. It can cause mild to severe illness. Some people, such as older people, young children, and people with certain health conditions, are at high risk of serious flu complications. Symptoms of influenza can vary, but generally include a high fever, headache, chills, body aches, sore throat, and cough.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) offers these tips to prevent influenza:

  • Get vaccinated every year

  • Avoid close contact with sick people

  • Frequently wash hands with soap

  • Stay at home if you are experiencing flu-like symptoms

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth

  • Individuals with chronic health issues and/or individuals experiencing severe symptoms should be evaluated by a medical professional.

  • See more prevention tips from the CDC.

The influenza vaccine is available at doctors’ offices and retail pharmacies and is covered by medical insurance. People with no health care coverage can get vaccinated at one of the County’s six public health centers or a local community clinic. To find the nearest location, visit the County’s Flu Vaccine Locations page or call 2-1-1 San Diego. The CDC recommends that everyone 6 months and older get vaccinated every year.
