Hillcrest Family Newsletter

November 3, 2017

Quite a busy week...

Hillcrest students and staff raised $580 for Hurricane Relief on Hat Day on Tuesday! Thank you so much for your support of this cause. A donation to One America Appeal has been made on behalf of Hillcrest Elementary School.

Thank you also to everyone who made the classroom Fall Fest events and the playground Trick or Treat event a success. It is wonderful to see so many families involved in making memories for our Hillcrest students!

Music News from Mrs. Runingen

Choir is off to a fantastic start! We are learning songs for our first concert on Wednesday, December 6th at 6:30 p.m. at the Tree Lighting at The Corners of Brookfield. Parents will bring their students to the Corners Mall and stay with them to hear our music that evening. We will be singing outside, weather permitting, so please dress appropriately! Everyone is invited, whether you have a student in choir or not! We also have a field trip planned to The Caring Place on Thursday, December 14th at 10:30 a.m. A permission slip will come home mid-November with information about both events. Please mark your calendars! Choir will meet regularly every Tuesday morning at 7:45 a.m. for the remainder of 2017 EXCEPT FOR DECEMBER 19th. Choir will end on the 12th of December and resume again in January. Please make a note of these dates.

The first school concert of the school year, entitled “Fall, Winter & Holiday Songs” will be on Wednesday, November 29th at 6:30 p.m. with the second and third grade classes. The dress rehearsal will at 2:45 p.m. in the gym, for any parents or grandparents who are unable to attend the evening concert. The students are busy preparing for this exciting event!

PTO Movie Night

Our first movie night will be Friday, November 17. Doors open at 6:00 pm. Movie starts at 6:30; free popcorn and other concessions will be available for sale. Students are voting on which movie that will be shown. The winner of the vote between Cars 3, The Nut Job 2 or The Emoji movie will be announced early next week. Feel free to bring comfortable seats and enjoy the movie!

Preventing Conflict and Exclusion

As part of our work to make sure everyone feels safe at Hillcrest, our district counselor, Heidi Edwards and our school psychologist, Sarah Brilliant present lessons to classrooms and conduct small groups to support students. Please see the attached FLYER for additional information that you can use at home to continue the conversations around preventing conflict and exclusion for your child.

Run, Play, Run

Mr. Anderson will be reaching out to families of students who are participating in the Wednesday evening Run, Play, Run sessions. Because of lower enrollment on Wednesdays, students who normally attend will be offered the Tuesday evening program instead. Tuesdays will continue to run as planned.

A new season of Run, Play, Run will start up in January. Winter is the PERFECT time to join Run, Play, Run and families who participate in Y Care have flexible pricing to support participation. Keep an eye out for details as we hope to be able to offer the Wednesday night opportunity, again!
