Educational Systems FCU Scholarships: Applications Due April 1
For us, it’s an honor to support education. That's why we're awarding seven $3,000 Dorothy Marvil Scholarships to college-bound high school students. There will be one scholarship awarded in each of the counties we serve. We're also awarding three $3,000 Community College Scholarships with one awarded at each of the community colleges we serve.

Essay Topic:
We are proud to serve the Maryland education community and the extraordinary people who share a remarkable commitment to help others grow. Tell us about an extraordinary member of the education community who has made a difference in your life and the life of others. All essays must be 12 pt. typed, double-spaced and 400-600 words.
How to Submit Your Application:
To submit your application, email the items listed below to scholarships@esfcu.org by April 1, 2014. Include the scholarship type (Dorothy Marvil Memorial or Community College) and county you currently attend school in the email subject line.

HELEN M. PLUMMER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT
MISR Court No. 193, Daughters of Isis, of the Prince Hall Masonic Family, will be awarding a $1,000.00 scholarship to a deserving high school graduate from the class of 2014. If you are interested, please adhere to the following:
a) Applicant must be a prospective graduate of a Prince George’s County High School who has applied and has been accepted at an accredited institution of higher learning.
b) Applicant must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.
c) Applicant must submit two (2) letters of recommendation attesting to the applicant’s scholarship, potential, character, etc.
d) Applicant must submit a certified copy of his/her high school transcript.
e) Using a separate sheet, please write a statement about your education and/or vocational goals. Include the reason you want to attend college and what higher education means to you.
f) Applicant must complete attached application form.
g) Deadline…..March 31, 2014

2014 Scholarship Application Guidelines
Applicants Must Meet the Following Requirements:
Will be Graduating by June 30, 2014 from a high school in the Washington, DC Metropolitan Area (Washington, D.C.; Arlington and Fairfax Counties and Alexandria and Falls Church cities in Virginia; and Montgomery and Prince Georges Counties in Maryland) OR be a member of Alfred Street Baptist Church
US citizenship
Admitted to and committed to attend a four-year institution
Demonstrated commitment to community service
Maintained a solid academic record with a 2.75 or above grade point average.
Have a combined SAT score (critical reading, math, writing) of 1400 or above OR a composite ACT score of 19 or above
Exhibit financial need
Complete Applications will include:
________ The Application Form, completed online at: (see link below)
________ An Essay on one of the topics specified on the application, also submitted online
________ Letter of Recommendation from a School Counselor or Teacher on official school stationary
________ Official High School Transcript including 1st semester senior year grades and
SAT/ACT scores. (If test scores are not included on the transcript, a copy of
the Official Score report is required.)
_______ Proof of Financial Need A copy of your Student Aid Report (SAR) with the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) circled. (The SAR is generated by the U.S. Department of Education after the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is submitted)
If the EFC is followed by an asterisk or a capital letter, you must also submit the first page of your parent(s)’ or guardian(s)’ most recent IRS form 1040.
Note: The SAR may be downloaded from the internet if you completed the FAFSA online. If not, you should receive a copy by mail from the U.S. Department of Education.
Transcripts, Recommendations, and the Student Aid Report must be mailed in one envelope to:

PLEASE NOTE: Each finalist will be required to provide a copy of an acceptance letter and a financial aid award letter from the college he or she plans to attend.
Award Amount:
Approximately twenty one-year Legacy Scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $25,000.
two $20,000 Millennium Scholarships ($5,000 annually for up to 4 years).
Selection Process:
The Foundation Committee will review applications; select and interview finalists; and present awards in June 2014.

Fortune Foundation Scholarship
Greetings Educators!
The Fortune Foundation is a nonprofit organization committed to increasing the number of minority youth who excel both academically and professionally, and who are also equipped with the essential tools to become effective leaders in their communities. Each year, we will award the Fortune Leadership and Academic Excellence Scholarship to up to three well deserving high school seniors. The purpose of the scholarship is to support minority students who are proactive in their community and show exemplary leadership and significant improvement in their grades and test scores.
